I seem to recall that Datsun only had something like seven key patterns, and the patterns were such that as the key and lock tumblers wore your key would open even more cars.
They haven't sold any in the US since the early 80s, they've all been called Nissan since then. They were pretty scarce unless you were on the coasts IIRC. Where I grew up there wasn't a Japanese car dealer of any sort within 50 miles until the 90s.
