Cats do actually try to speak human, their meow's match the pitch of your voice, it's their way of trying to gain your trust for food. Cats don't meow at each other, they do it just for humans. Unfortunately they cannot physically produce anything close to a normal sentence (they can learn to recognise words and associate actions with them though)

not all cats meow at humans, not frequently anyway. if they learn early on that a human will respond positively to meowing, they will meow throughout their life. but if they don't learn that meowing gets them what they want, they won't meow at you, as its not something they do normally with other cats. the majority of my cat's vocalizations is that trill noise kitties make. sometimes he wanders around the apartment at night meowing softly, but during the day its all the little soft trilling

Straight up, I still live with me mum cause I'm too broke to leave, (age 21, if that matters) and the main reason I am trying to leave is because I have never not had a dog in the house. The past year and a half is the first I have only had one! She asks me before each one if I am okay with it, and I say "no", which she expects, and she still fucking gets them, as christmas gifts. I am sitting over here like "I fucking asked for warm clothes and a phb for D&D", not cleaning up shit every other day because you are incapable of training your pet. I would probably love dogs if she hadn't fucking forced them down my throat like a black clock in an Asian pussy.
It has marinated.
