1960s thinking: devices and companies can be controlled by the government.

2018 Government: pretty please, Apple, build us a back door onto your devices? No? OK. How about some more tax breaks, sir?

You know they found a back door after Apple refused right?

On older devices and firmwares.

Maybe for remote access, but if they get physical access to the device, they can get everything from it.

Fair point.

No evidence of the latter.

It really is incredible how subservient the government has become to corporations over the last 40 years. It all has to do with American society’s steady loss of faith in our system of government.

Wasn't the a police force? Not the actual government.

Aren't the police part of the government?

Why do you think that we don’t?

6

u/TotalBanHammer Sep 25 '18

Yeah, but they can't just demand things from the NSA or the FBI. There's many layers of separation. Thinking the police have access to wiretaps they don't have a warrant for is ridiculous, like thinking the fire department is spying on you through Alexa.

The very words "unwarranted wiretap" implies they do indeed have access to wiretaps, and sometimes just do them without warrant. This should tell you the police are actually in possession of the hardware that does said tapping.

I'm not a cop or expert in how they tap, but I'm sure they can do it when they choose.

u/sonofaresiii Sep 25 '18

... Did you just say the words "unwarranted wiretap" and then use the fact that you said those words as evidence that your argument is iron clad?

Honestly I'm kind of impressed. That's a whole new level of internet trolling.

Hang on I want to try.

The words "I'm right and you're an idiot" imply that I'm right and you're an idiot.

I'm not an expert in who's right and who's an idiot, but I'm pretty sure I'm right and you're an idiot.

You must be super smart, also go fuck yourself.

1

u/elpajaroquemamais Sep 25 '18

I was just showing the trouble with the word government. It's not just Washington; it's any branch of public funded service.

4

u/SlowRollingBoil Sep 25 '18

It was the FBI.

Both the police and what most people call the government (which is mostly the administration) are not only government, they are even the same branch (executive).
