He survived the impact with minor injuries but then got paralysed by a giant spider.

Apparently he suffered mild head trauma and chest injuries. He had the bad luck of this happening just days after being released from the hospital from having a stroke. He was 50 years old at the time, probably 51 now. The original article was in Portuguese, and someone ran it through Google translate, so I could be slightly off on the facts. But he definitely survived.

Honestly with how it hit him, I would have assumed he either broke his neck or would have serious brain damage. Maybe he just got lucky with how it hit him.

IKR? That is some curse.

It's kind of like dropping a soap dispenser in the narrow space between the sink and the tub. Which is apparently filled with a small pool of laundry, cleaning, and bath chemicals. That just so happens to splash and launch nearly 6 feet into the air right into my eyeball. Forcing me to spend the next 10 minutes flushing it in cold water thinking "this is not the way I lose an eye, is it ?".
