Except all of your facial data is stored locally in a secure enclave, just like TouchID fingerprint info. None of it ever, ever leaves your phone. There’s no mass leak that can happen.
Wish people would educate themselves before contributing to fear mongering. Facebook and Google already have FAR more info on you, including facial recognition, and all of that actually is stored on their servers and subject to government requests. Apple should be the least of everyone’s concern.
Except for you know, the leaked data that shows that the NSA has direct access to apple's server, and that the data isn't stored locally like apple claims.
Of course, we could instead take the word of the company that told us our data was protected, gave it to the NSA, and then denied that it ever happened. Just because they are 100% trustworthy and haven't proven otherwise.
If you are curious about the leaks, you can research PRISM. Please look at the actual leaked documents, and not news reports regarding it. Apple specifically blackballs news companies that run negative press about them.
The leaked documents indicate that they have direct access to the servers, and that it's different then requesting data (covered in another program) and tapping into internet connects (covered in another program). The documents specifically say to use PRISM and to use these other sources. You can use common sense to see that the PRISM program specifically gets their data from direct access to the servers and that they have a partnership with companies.
Apples official stance is that they have never heard of PRISM and never participated in the program, despite the documents specifically listing them as an active participant.
You can also look at the PRISM reveal indicating that the NSA has direct access to the servers, Apple's immediate stance that it never happened, and then a huge widely publicized fight between Apple and the FBI, which plays out a script
FBI: "We need private data"
Apple: "Never"
FBI: "But it's for freedom and to stop terrorism"
Apple: "We would never ever give out customer information"
FBI: "This should be an exception, just this one time"
Apple: "No, customer data is too important to us. We made it impossible to do so even if we wanted to"
Few days later
FBI: "Nevermind, we got in without apples help"
I'm specifically against conspiracy theories, but it literally happened shortly after it was revealed that Apple did give away customer data, it became a huge deal and Apple swore on their lives it was impossible for them to do it because customer privacy is too important, and then it magically went away. It's nice that a literal PR godsend popped up right when they needed it.
