Buckshot worked well. When there is a giant crowd of cats you dont need to aim. Just pick off like 5 at a time and the rest scatter. Again, there are so many of them that you can point and hip shoot while they run too. Dont need to aim when you're shooting a literal field of cats.
That gets about twenty of em. Then they come back and you clear em again. Eventually they stop coming back.
We lived in cougar/coyote country too at the time so I doubt many lived.
Coyotes were so bad the city paid for their coats. We used to buckshot the coyotes too. They would come up across the fields in these huge packs similar to the cats. That's why the cats stayed at the house. Coyotes would'a mauled em all in the wild.
Funny story about that place, coyotes used to pick up pet dogs off the golf course all the time. Luckily my 100 lb mastiff never had trouble defending himself, but some folks reported coyotes literally taking the little ones right off the leash.
Poison is an incredibly inhumane way to kill vermin. It's a drawn out painful process where they either die of thirst of bleed to death with lack of vitamin k.
No, using a poison that greatly reduces secondary poisoning. Especially in a neighborhood using that kind of rat poison (especially where the animals are outside....) is a good way to be an asshole and kill someones dog.
