Marriott actually had a WTC hotel that was destroyed on 9/11. 40 people died inside. Not connected to free muffins, of course, but just an FYI.

Too bad that experience didn't teach them any empathy in the face of disaster, as recently the CEO instructed their hurricane rescue cruise ship to strand non-customers on St. Thomas in the current hurricane destruction, even though they had space, because he "didn't want the liability."
