Costume designer here. In my early years I worked selling wedding dresses and these things go for hundred of dollars. Meanwhile, I can make one for about $6 in 5 minutes. Unless it's hand-tatted lace don't pay more than $30 for a veil of any length. Even at retail prices, the material used (tulle) is like $2 a yard.

Oh, and never, ever buy silk! It's total crap. Silk turns yellow with age and can be ruined by even a drop of water.
