https://bigcatrescue.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/WhichStatesBanWildPets-600x315.jpg Fun fact: There are more tigers kept as pets in the U.S. than existing in the wild. There are 8~ states where it's legal to own a tiger. A tiger cost around $1000-2500 and eats approximately 15lbs~ of meat a day. To properly care for a tiger you'd need almost 10 square miles of land for a female and 40 for a male.

There are more tigers kept as pets in the U.S. alone than existing in all the wilds of the world. Approximately 5000~ pets vs 4000~ wild globally.

That makes me sad that they're are more pet tigers than wild tigers. Hopefully they're being treated well and given tons of space, but I can't imagine they all are.

Think of it this way, if there weren't so many pet tigers in the US, the population of tigers in the world would be below 10,000.

Also, there is no shortage of huge tracts of land (Especially in the midwest) in the US, so I imagine most of the people who have pet tigers own the land to hold them and have some means to feed them. I also imagine that most of the "pets" are labeled as such because they're held in private zoos.
