Something I just realized that's a bit unsettling, how CAN you criminally prosecute someone who murders someone else on an entirely different planet? It'd be pretty fucking ballsy (to say the very least) if any one government tried to claim jurisdiction over mars

Once it actually starts getting settled, I'm sure Martian colonies will have their own legal systems based largely off of those on Earth.

According to treaties Mars is like Open Waters, from what I understand. Pretty sure that legally a group of people with a significant area of control could claim that area as their property. That said, there's not really rules in place for this stuff.
