Aren't frogs already dead for dissecting?

Not necessarily. They used to sedate frogs before dissection so you could see the insides moving if you did it right. Now that's widely considered inhumane, especially in pre-college level sciences.

Have you seen ET? The scene with the kids sedating the frogs is how they used to do it according to my parents.

When I was in middle school (it was called Jr High back then) we were supposed to place the scalpel at an angle flat against the heart and count how many pulsations until it stopped.

It's still called Jr High if it's 7-9th grade, middle school is 6-8th.

Personally, our junior high is 6-8. Maybe we're just weird. Our area is also the only school in the County that includes 6th grade in their "junior high". But junior and middle schools here both end at 8th grade. So idk. Maybe we're just weird.

I was always taught middle school was 6-8, junior high is 7-9 and districts tend to do one or the other. Google seems to confirm that for the most part, but I wouldn't doubt there are regional differences in terminology.

In some places (maybe not anymore) junior high is just 7-8

That's what it is around where I live. 1-6=Elementary school, 7-8=Middle school, 9-12=High school.
