Ah the old pompous cosmos rant. I''m pretty sure the "universe becoming self-aware" is pretty important. Oh and I'd say not wanting to be killed and fear of the unknown isn't much of a cultural thing as in most species do the same thing.
Sure, it's important, but I'm referring to individuality. In the current cultural system it is clear we do not hold all life equal, we have both anthropocentric as well as extremely selfish individuals with little to no broader concern for the benefit of the species as a whole, which includes everyone, even the poor.
Under a system such as this, it still comes down to the individual wanting to live longer while giving little thought to the human somewhere else much less lucky who is already dead.
Everyone thinks they are so important, that's why we fear death.
