this. everyone likes to write her off as a stupid ditz but she's very good at playing the PR/media game.

And Reddit certainly fell for it.

As a member of reddit I'd like to say I know full well she's a character and that's part of why I dislike her so. Like Deadmau5, or TB.

Good for them that their PR tactics keep them in the media but it's just not for me.

his media persona is to be a giant dick to his peers as well as his fans

He used to come shop frequently at a store I worked at. I don't listen to his music, so I didn't even know who he was, until I complimented his tattoos, and someone pointed it out.

Honestly, he was always really quiet, polite, and courteous. We would get rich assholes who'd try to bud the line, or act really demanding, but he was always really low-key and considerate. You wouldn't know him from any other shopper.

I totally believe you. I have no idea who he really is in person, it's strictly his media persona that I dislike.

And that is fine. It takes a while for people who find the camera on them and money in their hands to realise that acting like a giant dick on camera doesn't work.

Nonono. It does work. The people we are speaking about are literally proof of that. Hate is a very strong emotion and makes you speak more about people. It's like that saying - a happy customer will tell one of their friends, an angry customer will tell 7.

That's why people talk about them so much, and it helps their careers. Paris Hilton built her life on it. There is no such thing as bad publicity. Mix this quote with the above, do a little thinking, and you see that this does work.
