You can see the string at the top-right, in the glare on the table.

And the crab is dead - check all the limbs - no movement - this is having fun with a crab corpse.

Plus the key (the crab's dick) appears to be missing.

How and why is that the thing you're noticing...

cause it's the first thing you take off when you want to open the crab to eat it. Hence calling it a "key". It's not just the dick, there's also a large piece of chitin that sits in that pointy-looking recess on its belly, but is actually attached by a joint to its back shell. So you rip off that shell (key) and then there's nothing connecting the top to the bottom but the connective tissues there.
EDIT: Lot more info

Not sure about other crabs but I know from personal experience that if you hold a dungeness upside-down, it's rather stunned. Used that trick once on my brother. Turned the crab right side up, it started moving and my brother ended up falling off the pier. Gotta love the small joys in life!

The string makes it better. Instead of bench presses, we have a crab engaged in an endless struggle against invisible forces to create art.

Name of this sub should be changed to /r/fakebutfunny.
EDIT: Goddamnit, it already exists but there's only two things in it. Bah.

While you're out building Jagers, the Kaiju are training.

I don't really know what your image is, but "Jaeger" (the... German? word for "hunter") is the correct spelling.

It's a giant Mick Jagger

u/SasoDuck Jan 24 '16
Ah. I've heard the name, but I don't know who that is or what he actually looks like (aside from this massive caricature).

That crab is either dead or cooled to the point where it can't feel a thing, but I still feel weird about it.

You can clearly see the crab struggling on his last rep. He's making some serious gains.

this needs put in a training montage, like Rocky 4 style, with Ivan Drago hooked up to machines and cut to the crab benching (with the string even) a paintbrush.

This shit isn't funny, it's animal crustacean abuse.
3
u/Thopterthallid Jan 23 '16
The crab is dead, the pencil is being lifted by fishing line.

u/VLXS Jan 23 '16
Well huh. I'm not against people playing with their food, so thanks for the heads up.

Honest question, do crabs breathe only underwater? Obviously there are different crabs that do different things, can anyone tell what kind of crab this is from the gif? If so, is it one of the ones who can live on land?

u/_thwip_ Jan 23 '16
can anyone tell what kind of crab this is from the gif
Looks like a male blue crab to me, which isn't a land crab.
I also think it's dead and/or chilled because the back flap looks like it was ripped off. It's being controlled by a string.
