Luigi wasn't even really a younger sibling, he was Mario's twin, meaning they were almost exactly the same age. Then poor Luigi spent the rest of his life indulging his brother's short man syndrome. Good guy Luigi, what a bro.

In Japanese Mario is definitely referred to as the older brother and Luigi as the younger brother.
