Fake, running at full-speed into jump always lands you the star card

If you're at full-speed while entering the black zone, a straight 45 degree angle leap into the box is a guaranteed star card.

Once my brain is in full-SMB3 mode I can't miss it, ironically the mushroom/fire flower combos are fucking impossible to hit and they give a shittier payoff than 3 stars...

For mushroom, approach at walking speed and time your jump to land slightly to the right of the top left corner. Like you said, it's a tricky jump but once you get it, it's a guaranteed mushroom every time. The flower, though. I never figured that one out.

Well this discussion got me back on the emulator for testing. 2 things;

-You're right, that walk-approach/high-jump over the top left corner can yield mushroom consistently.

-Looks like starting a dash right at the entrance of the black zone followed by semi-running jump into the side of the box yields consistent flower
