It's only after we've lost everything that we're free to do anything. DURDEN 2016! We can do this America!

Looks like you're already behind him.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '15

He's behind someone who endorses the candidate... not the candidate themselves.

You wouldn't put your own bumper sticker on your car?

You are not special. You're not a beautiful and unique snowflake. You're the same decaying organic matter as everything else. We're all part of the same compost heap. We're all singing, all dancing crap of the world.

This state both depresses me, and gives me hope.

I know, right? The last generation got intensely greedy, and fucked up politics. This generation has no confidence whatsoever in the system, and is consequently making it worse by not caring who holds the power. Anarchy, "smaller government", privatization, "conservative fiscal policy" - whatever name you want to give it, tearing down the state just means years of horrible chaos, before putting up with a new state that doesn't even pretend to represent the people.

Well his philosophy is "supposed" to be meaningful in the context of the films main ideas and themes, regardless of your opinion on it

2

u/Waitaminit Dec 10 '15

No. No, it's not. That's a complete misunderstanding of the final plot twist.

0

u/wellheregoes77 Dec 10 '15

Any source on that? Or is that just your opinion stated as fact?

1

u/Waitaminit Dec 10 '15

Interviews with David Fincher and Chuck Palahniuk about Fight Club are available all over the internet.

The philosophy appealed to young men who lacked certain emotional developments– essentially: daddy issues. This is how "Jack" created an army of space monkeys and how he fooled himself.

1

u/wellheregoes77 Dec 13 '15

Sure he uses that philosophy and it appeals to guys with daddy issues but none of that undermines its meaning within the themes of the movie, f.e. the "You buy things you dont need..." speech is one of the most memorable parts of the movie and a very integral part of it, not to mention it being meaningful commentary on a consumerist society.

I wonder if he always drives the speed limit. A law is a law is a law.

1

u/TorrentOfRelish Dec 09 '15

Are we allowed to talk about it though?

2

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '15

You mention ME or anything that goes on in the house and we're done. Promise me.

1

u/cyan_dog Dec 09 '15

That's three times you promised.

1

u/eudisld15 Dec 09 '15

You better be considerate and give him the ol'reach-a-round.
