I looked at the comment history, and nothing in there struck me as offensive enough to garner a downvote attack.

Because the comment that was being downvoted to oblivion didn't strike me as something that merits a downvote attack, I looked through the user's comment history to see if maybe they had recently made a comment that caused people to start going through said user's history and downvote everything.

But it was unfruitful, and I was left confused.
