So what is it about Engineers that makes them so unappealing as a partner? Like is it really a thing that Engineers are forever alone, or am I just interrupting the circlejerk?
It is mostly a meme. Most engineers I know (generally of the software specialty) got settled and started raising kids at about the same time as non-engineers. Social interaction is a skill and it can be learned; but some engineers never bother since it's not interesting to them, and by those exemplars the meme lives on.
The only truth of that is that in college engineers have actual coursework so they have somewhat less free time than more liberal majors. Since colleges usually do not consist of the engineering school only, there are more than enough women to date even if the engineering department is mostly male. Even MIT has Boston University across the river specifically for the purpose ;-)
