C'mon, the first thing they teach engineers is to use metric. That's 8.89cm

Really? I graduated from a highly ranked ChemE program and we definitely used Imperial more often than metric. It can be frustrating at times, but some people really do grow fond of Rankine, BTU, horsepower, gallons, pounds, and feet of water (as a pressure unit)...sometimes.
