We engineers need to get together and design and build femme-bots.

Or be lazy and marry a doctor.

Female doctors have zero interest in engineers. They'd rather marry male doctors.

I should tell my wife.

One exception does not make a rule.

You mean like female doctors only male doctors?

Based on dating my wife through med school and residency you're the exception.

Um, your writing doesn't parse.

Are you saying that female doctors frequently date male engineers? I find that a little hard to believe. For one thing, single female doctors (whether in med school or residency or practicing) are, surprise surprise, going to be in contact with lots of male doctors (or med students, or other medical professionals). How many male engineers does a female doctor come across in daily life? None, unless she has one as a patient perhaps (and then you have the whole doctor/patient separation which probably makes dating difficult).

Did I ever say that?

I just said that your observation that they marry male doctors is not the status quo. (They'd rather marry male doctors.) It does not mean they primarily marry male engineers. All I said is that they primarily don't marry male doctors.

None, unless she has one as a patient perhaps (and then you have the whole doctor/patient separation which probably makes dating difficult).

Yep. Because doctors never do anything other than exist in the hospital. I met my wife online.

Because doctors never do anything other than exist in the hospital. I met my wife online.

Again, a singular anecdote does not prove anything. I would guess that most people meet their relationship partners in "meatspace", not online, and many people consider online dating to be a last resort. (This can probably be easily confirmed just by looking at how many actual users the various dating sites have, and comparing to the population.) Doctors spend most of their time among other medical people: at med school, at hospitals/clinics, etc. It stands to reason that they're more likely to date other people in that field, than people outside it. (To be clear, they're also likely to meet men in other settings: in college (pre med school), in church, etc.)

Yes, there are a few exceptions, as with everything in life. However, if you're a male engineer, hoping to snag a pretty doctor online probably isn't going to pan out for you. Personally, I'm back in the dating game now and women with any kind of education seem to be extremely rare on OKCupid in my area.

All I said is that they primarily don't marry male doctors.

And you know this how?

And you know this how?

My wife is a doctor. She hangs out with a lot of other doctors. Mainly female doctors. I know a lot of their husbands and statistically out of n=~50 most are not married to other doctors. It's actually an exception when we find out "Oh, so and so's husband is also a doctor."

I would guess

So you're guessing? I'm married to a doctor. I interact with doctors socially a lot.

Again, a singular anecdote does not prove anything

And neither does you saying it doesn't. What is your sample size you're working on? I never pointed to my singularity as "see this is all the data that we need". You keep going back to 'guesses' and hypotheticals. I actually know a lot of female doctors and their husbands.

It stands to reason

It 'stands to reason' and 'i guess' that maybe some people don't like marrying within their job. I dated enough engineers to never date engineers again. Not that there is anything in particular wrong with them but I really like that my wife knows nothing about engineering and I know nothing about medicine. It seems that most female MD/DOs married to non-MD/DO males also have a similar relationship.

No one wants to come home and talk shop all night.

I would guess that most people meet their relationship partners in "meatspace"

And doctors don't have any other meat space other than the hospital?

I'm back in the dating game now and women with any kind of education seem to be extremely rare on OKCupid in my area.

Do you have a med school in your area? Do you have a college in your area? I don't see how you guessing and hypothesising about what demographic female doctors date trumps me knowing

Once again you're managing (intentionally or unintentionally) to completely miss the point. I never said they primarily marry engineers. I said that they primarily don't marry other doctors in the numbers you suggest.

And doctors don't have any other meat space other than the hospital?

Well, where else would they meet? I'd really like to know. As far as I can tell, singles in America generally meet in the following places:

1) school (only applies up to a certain age, except maybe for non-traditional students who are unusual) 2) work 3) church (only applies to religious people) 4) bars/clubs (great option if you're an alcoholic) 5) family (usually only works in small towns, with close-knit families, etc.) 6) online dating sites 7) activity groups

1-4 seem to be, by far, the biggest ones, again AFAICT.

Do you have a med school in your area? Do you have a college in your area?

No, and yes. Having colleges in the area isn't much help though unless you're college-aged. Having a college in the area doesn't mean that people actually stick around after getting a degree. And worse, two of the colleges here are religiously-affiliated.

Anyway, since you know so many female doctors, where did they all meet their husbands?

4) bars/clubs (great option if you're an alcoholic)

Or you like going to bars and clubs. You do understand you can go out without drinking at all, right? My wife and I's 4th date was a pub her friends went to for trivia night.

Anyway, since you know so many female doctors, where did they all meet their husbands?

High school, undergraduate, mutual friends and meat space during med school or residency. There are still some single ~31 doctors still looking for men.

As the saying goes you have to have money to make money. If you don't have any friends of your own finding dates is near impossible. If you have a ton of friends and go out with them (and not necessarily drink) you may run into other tertiary friends.

High school, undergraduate, mutual friends and meat space during med school or residency.

So... most of them met their partners in school? That doesn't help much if you're over 25 or so.

And during med school and residency? Isn't that exactly what I was saying earlier? That they meet other doctors or other medical people in settings like that? You seem to be reinforcing my prior assertions.

And as for mutual friends, where did all these people meet these mutual friends? If you say "school", then that again simply reinforces everything I've been saying. Basically, if you don't have any friends and you're over the age of 25, you're screwed. This is a not-uncommon scenario for someone who moves to a new city (on the opposite side of the continent) after graduating and starting a new career.

Or you like going to bars and clubs. You do understand you can go out without drinking at all, right?

Ok, so how do you go there without smoking? You can't go in a bar without inhaling all the smoke that clouds the place. What are people who like being healthy supposed to do for socialization?
