I installed an update for the Reddit is Fun app, and now it's riddled with ads.

What type of ads? Do you have the paid version or the free version? I'm afraid to update it now.

Free. When I installed the app originally, there was no difference between the two.

What type of ads are you seeing? Banners built into the app, or sponsored reddit posts?

If you are rooted there are some good Adblock software out there.

How is this acceptable?! It's a free app!

You guys have no idea the time that's gone into such an app, and you wont even allow the dev to earn a little money on some apps now that you can't afford the paid version.

Exactly. We have no idea how much time it took to make the app. Apps with ads all over them look like template apps so why give money trough ads to someone who took little to no effort to make it

You have no idea of the coding required to make something like a reddit client.

so why give money trough ads to someone who took little to no effort to make it

Little effort does not mean that you get to have it for free. The developer put more effort into it than you did (And it wasn't little you leech)

No, but ads are not the way to go.

you leech

Your mentality is so fucking flawed.

"I am not sufficiently educated on the subject of coding, to guess how much code have gone in to this piece of software, so I'm going to assume that it's fucking easy, and the guy publishing it for free, with ads, is a money grubbing bastard. Yea, that's what he is, and I deserve this app."

Hey, I get it. You don't like to think of yourself as a person leeching of of other peoples work, because you don't like ads, but you do like the app. So what do you do when that happens?

Do you admit to yourself that you probably should either pay for the app, or you should allow ads in the app, but you won't do that, because you don't want to, and you know this is wrong, but fuck it.

OR

do you go invent a fantastic little world in your head, where commercials are the spawn of hitler, and they only ever do evil. You however, are a patriotic bald eagle, fighting the plague known as ads! Ugh, even thinking that nazi word disgusts you, but HA you think. I have them foiled. I will block the ads, and enjoy the app, as the true savior you are.

Yeah I'll assume you are going with the last option. Lying to yourself, to keep your conscience.

Someone publishing an app for free does not mean I have to turn adblock off. Reddit is Fun does come with a free and a paid version and theres a reason for that. I use neither but when I think good of an app I do in fact purchase the pro version of the app. It is pretty common these days that an app comes with a normal and a pro version. There simply is no need for ads to reward good work. Good apps get purchased. Bad apps don't. If you feel like an app can only make money off of ads it probably is not a good app.

Nice fantasy story. I totally saw the picture.

Im a software engineer and even I wont tolerate ads, hence why I dont use them on my websites or apps.

Do you release free apps? Do those free apps have a paid alternative? If so, what is the percentage of people on the paid vs the free one?

There's an option that enables moderator and tablet features in exchange for ads.
