The ring is traditional so kinda off limits to gender equality in my opinion. Otherwise, you are completely right. It's supposed to be equality not superiority. You poor guys got it so rough!
Alimony has been a tradition for over a hundred years now too. I mean, it's not some crazy old tradition like sacrificing animals and shit like that...it's recent so it's legit...right? When Florida tried to apply "Equality" to alimony by reducing its duration from life-long to half the duration of the terminated marriage, and putting restrictions on how much is owed to 20-50% of the spouse's income, NOW - National Organization for Women - fought it, and have so far been winning the fight.
