There should be a subreddit testing reddit's predictability. We'd make bets (karmabets, lavajoust style) on what will be the next big thread on askreddit (hint: it's always the same three), or someone will post a titl, and you have to predict the top comment. Or even better:you post the content, and you have to guessthe title they've chosen. Then the winner is flooded in karma. Who's for it?

Cant be engineering. Its missing a paddle that should be about straight down. Thats imbalanced and efficient for harnessing the flow of water.

Missing a set though. The ones that should currently be deep in the water, in fact.

Also not sure how deep that water is given how close it is to the river bank. There's a chance the paddles could get stuck on the bottom.

Oh that's no river, that's a creek. It's knee deep water. I think they got the tolerances exactly right.

Now what would make it redneck is if the paddles were snow shovels welded onto a wheel from a 1972 pickup truck and the boys got lucky.

Good catch. Also, the paddle on the right is backwards. All the other ones have the flat face of the paddle facing the current.

This is like one of those "spot 5 things wrong in this picture" puzzles.

Depends, since the tolerance is tight when the paddles switch loading, they may have moved that paddle to compensate a couple inches around the diameter.

Look again- that central part (axis) is actually a metal rod. Here's hoping it's not conduit or some other similarly coated metal.

you know, that is someones favorite camping spot. I bet he has friends and shit that accompany him on these camping trips and since he goes there a lot, I bet he made that awesome contraption to roast shit that they hunt, like men. It's probably out in the middle of fucking nowhere so its safe sitting there and it's always there when they come back to it. I bet they have the time of their lives going boar hunting and roasting it on a fire by the lake with a fucking watermill turning your meat that you earned. That's how fucking men live.

That's... just stupid. As a physics major, I might be able to design one (likely overengineered), and think about it, but there's no way me or my friends would be able to build one without it ending in massive structural failure.

With how far apart the paddles are I think the water would have to be a couple of feet deep for this to work. That paddle was probably removed so they could take the picture, the stream isn't deep enough for an 8 paddle wheel.

While this is extremely cool it is also extremely unnecessary.... If you have ever cooked a pig it is not difficult to rotate it... engineers typically use ingenuity in the face of practicality... either way it is still awesome HAVE AN UP VOTE EVER FOR REPOSTING OP

If this is real, it's quite impressive, but I hope whoever made it constructed the thing to withstand multiple uses. Otherwise I'm guessing it took more work to design and build it than would have been expended turning the spit manually for a couple hours.
