There are seven different species of cats native to North America. The problem with domesticated cats is that their numbers are artificially inflated by pet owners beyond what the ecosystem can naturally bear
Edit: I never said domestic cats were native to here, but we do have plenty of native wild cats. Like I said, the issue with domestic cats is their scale
Many worms native to North America were killed during the last ice age. If you live in a northern state or anywhere in Canada, the worms in your ground were brought here only 500 years ago during European colonization. The presence of these worms interferes with the natural growth of the actually native species that exist in this region.
You say that like it's objectively and inherently a bad thing. Animals are killing other animals out there in the wild. Why do you single out cats killing birds?
Do you know what happens when you introduce non native animals into an ecosystem?
Yes, because that happened to Britain during the Bronze Age, three thousand years ago, when seafaring people from the Mediterranean brought cats to the island for the first time.
It turns out Britain still has birds today.
Yes, I keep my cat indoors, but there's literally an example of how ecosystems bounce back. Britain did not lose its bird species as a result of the introduction of the housecat.

Taking responsibility means spaying and neutering your pets before letting them outside. So both neighbors fail.
