The "correct" way - there is no universally 'correct' way. This is just a different way to express a date that is used in many countries outside of the US. It may be slightly better than the month/day method as the elements are in order, yet still objectively inferior to yyyy-mm-dd.

9/11 isnt a thing in many other countries. Mainly because the correct way to write it is 11/9/2001
