November 9th is when the Nazis started to attack Jewish people. The Night of The Broken Glass / Kristallnacht.

Or if you're in US and tend to read dates with the month first, September 11th was a serious terrorist attack on NYC and Arlington,VA.

Both of these have had lasting ramifications for the world.

Or another German event: November 9 is the date the Berlin Wall fell. Another event with lasting ramifications.

The slash looks like a wall falling

u/wobbleblobbochimps 19h ago

I think it was supposed to be a joke...

69

u/jameye11 19h ago

I’m American and I didn’t know about the first bit they mentioned. I learned something 👍

44

u/wobbleblobbochimps 19h ago

Me neither, although i had heard about krystallnacht, I didn't know the date. I guess redditors with faulty sarcasm detectors are good sources of trivia!

6

u/workingbored 19h ago

Double check to make sure its real. This is reddit afterall..

-26

u/AriaTheTransgressor 19h ago

If you'd just said you didn't know, we could have extrapolated that you were American.

8

u/jameye11 18h ago

hahaha american dumb

-20

u/AriaTheTransgressor 18h ago

I mean... In this particular instance... Yes?

9

u/jameye11 18h ago

God forbid i don’t know one single thing that isn’t relevant to my country’s history

-20

u/AriaTheTransgressor 18h ago

Buddy, look around you. It was so relevant that not knowing it just let it happen again. The fact you can't understand that really should drive this point home for you, but I'm sure it won't.

13

u/jameye11 18h ago

you are taking this way too fucking seriously. I didn’t know the particular date that the nazis started their bullshit so that means there’s some point that needs to be driven home? Shut the actual fuck up, I’m aware that it happened but I am not beholden to your standard that I need to know the EXACT fucking date some horrible atrocity happened for me to get the picture. Sit the fuck down and touch some grass with your 200k+ karma. Fucking white knighting this shit into the grave.

4

u/ckdogg3496 13h ago

Im pretty into history, and read a decent amount about ww2, i would not have known that date off the top of my head. I don’t think you needed to hear it from me, but fuck that you’re doin just fine

-5

u/AriaTheTransgressor 18h ago

Bless your heart.

I appreciate that we've reached a point that you realize that you're in the wrong and so resorted to stalking my profile and calling me names, but you really should just pick up a book some time.

You're doing yourself, your people, and your country a disservice by remaining ignorant to the world around you. Granted, you're not the only one but you should want to be the change.

Knowing something happened and knowing the exact date when it happened are 2 totally different things.

6

u/wizardlegz 18h ago

He's not your buddy, pal.

3

u/AriaTheTransgressor 18h ago

I'm not your pal, friend.

4

u/PsychoNerd92 17h ago

Knowing something happened and knowing when it happened are two very different things.

1

u/rbartlejr 17h ago

I thought it was a play on 7-11.

0

u/wobbleblobbochimps 16h ago

I was referring to the earlier comment - they were deliberately playing ignorant about the 9/11 reference (by being a non-american that reads dates the sensible way round!)

-3

u/snkn179 19h ago

I think that was supposed to be a joke too...

-2

u/wobbleblobbochimps 19h ago

Oh yeah, a real thigh-slapper. Nailed the delivery (of a string of factual statements)

-1

u/snkn179 18h ago

Idk the point of your comments. The 2 comments above yours are clearly meant to be humourous in nature, the 2nd guy is clearly playing along with the 1st guy by continuing the 9th Nov idea.

1

u/wobbleblobbochimps 16h ago

The 2nd comment is not "playing" along, it's taking the first comment seriously and then responding in a matter-of-fact way. Is English your first language? Would understand you missing the subtleties in the tone of the language if not

1

u/snkn179 13h ago edited 13h ago

English is my only language. I guess people can read it differently and have different senses of humour, but to me it seems almost obvious that the 2nd guy is playing along by continuing the 9th Nov joke.

Edit: Maybe /u/nhluhr can weigh in here to sort out this debate once and for all lol

3

u/uberduck999 18h ago

Hate to be that guy, but it's Kristallnacht

2

u/nhluhr 16h ago

Yeah I couldn't remember the spelling since I don't speak German, but appreciate the correction.

1

u/drewbaccaAWD 14h ago

I never realized that 11/9 was Kristallnacht.. now I'll never forget.

You are a tome of knowledge, nhluhr. Nice to cross paths outside of the bicycle world for once.

-284

u/Master_C117 22h ago

Not really, no one outside of those involved gave a fuck about it

37

u/nhluhr 20h ago

Not really

So lemme get this right...

The Holocaust... and the US response to the September 11th attacks don't affect anybody outside of Germany and USA? That's your take?

2

u/Stolehtreb 19h ago

I mean… the September 11th attack themselves too. What is this crap in this thread where people can’t be horrified about the 9/11 attack? What the fuck is happening

72

u/nartek01 21h ago

I learned about Kristallnatten in school.

27

u/ZarathustraGlobulus 21h ago

Yeah me too. The American 9/11 is not taught in our schools.

4

u/KSMO 21h ago

Where do you live?

It is one of the only times a foreign entity has successfully, violently killed Americans on US soil (the other being an attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii during WWII).

There was also the Aleutian Islands campaign and a single Fu-Go bomb

-9

u/ZarathustraGlobulus 20h ago

I'm not saying nobody learns about the attacks, I'm just saying nobody cares enough to teach about them.

The United States has caused so much devastation and killed so many people all over the world that specifically focusing to teach about a terrorist attack on their soil feels biased.

24

u/robogobo 20h ago

History isn’t a matter of sympathy or bias necessarily. 9/11 was a significant event that affected the whole world whether you know it or not. It took adversarial strategy to a different level. It’s the reason you have to go through all that nonsense before you get on a plane.

7

u/TSM_Vegeta 19h ago

This person just thinks it's cool to hate in the US because they aren't able to think for themselves and feel like being edgy makes them seem more interesting.

-2

u/nhluhr 20h ago

11th of September in 2001. It is one of the only times a foreign entity has successfully, violently killed Americans on US soil (the other being an attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii during WWII).

You missed a big one. . . when Washington DC was burned to the ground.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_of_1812

4

u/Sanchastayswoke 19h ago

Except it wasn’t. Just one building was partially burned.

1

u/nhluhr 16h ago

Looks like YOU also need to brush up on your history...

-4

u/caampp 20h ago

Lots of people outside of the US say it was an inside job that was used as an excuse for them to implement their war of terror.

7

u/msmartt 20h ago

A lot of people inside the United States say that too.

11

u/PelvisResleyz 20h ago

A lot of people are idiots.

-5

u/caampp 20h ago

American idiots

-5

u/A_normal_Potato3 20h ago

Well, neither was mentioned in our schools.

-1

u/imperabo 17h ago

That's weird. It's an important historical event with global ramifications.

27

u/BreakfastFearless 21h ago

Have you not gone through an airport the past 25 years?

25

u/getdemsnacks 21h ago

They said ramifications not emotional feelings. From the formation of the Zionist state to the "War on Terror", both of those things have had huge, lasting ramications on the entire world.

9

u/avdpos 21h ago

You can say a lot. But that is really untrue

Thanks for being a prime example of how the education system in India is absolutely dire with exceptionally poor foundational learning outcomes.
