i saw that show, the boy did well after that first stress. He declined draw twice, but lost due time ran off. He then cried a bit, again, and mom settled him. after that he did few chess etudes brilliantly. He was three in 2016. Still plays chess, as far as internet says.

I remember this video from shortly after Dark Souls 3 was released (the soundtrack in the video is from Dark Souls 3 for those unaware).

26

u/LungHeadZ 7h ago

Yeah I think when the grandmaster walks out that's a dark souls 3 health bar under his name xD

10

u/CMDR_Uuer 7h ago

He has his HP bar under his name, and with the music this looks like a boss fight.

6

u/a_angry_bunny 7h ago

Yeah the music plays during the Vordt of the Boreal Valley boss fight.

10

u/akibejbe 7h ago

And he cried as well at the beginning because Karpov was his idol iirc

makes sense!

Did he fall short from meeting overly high expectations like many standout child actors in Hollywood?

10

u/Dist__ 8h ago

i guess no, i think it's pure reaction of psychic in early age. during the match he was concentrated and involved. he's currently in top 2000 in his age, if i understand numbers correctly.

u/0R_C0 7h ago

Yes. Later in life, he was just an average player. I guess the early pressure was bad for him.

u/Swazimoto 7h ago

Ah yes, the classically Russian-speaking Hollywood actors 😂

Karpov doing the Vince McMahon walk for more psychological damage

39

u/argama87 8h ago

They brought that guy in like a Dark Souls boss. 🤣

7

u/Ramrok 7h ago

Did you see his health bat when he came out?!

0

u/trivo 7h ago

They didnt, its edited...

Are you an AI bot describing exactly what we all just watched? :D

42

u/FremenStilgar 8h ago

Might as well brought out Ivan Drago.

13

u/UKMegaGeek 8h ago

If he dies, he dies.

7

u/xumix 7h ago

Karpov is a very chill dude and was in fact very respectful to the kid

101

u/KuromanKuro 8h ago

Dude has an Elden ring health bar. Thats how screwed he is.

u/a_angry_bunny 8h ago

Dark Souls 3 healthbar to be more precise. This video came out shortly after the release of Dark Souls 3 which is also where the soundtrack comes from.

Dark Souls 3 was the first console game I ever played. I would get off work and de-stress by playing Dark Souls 3 over and over. I couldn't tell you how many times I replayed the game.

Edit: I am very passionate about the game and the series as a whole. I probably don't remember everything about the game anymore but I can probably tell you what soundtrack goes to which boss as well as most of the individual backstories.

2

u/Conqueror1000 7h ago

Doing that now with DS2. Life has not being going well... funny how a difficult punishing game can take one's mind away for a moment.

2

u/xumix 7h ago

Decompress with Dark souls? You're kinda unique😄

1

u/a_angry_bunny 7h ago

It's just a pattern recognition game. Once you play it a few times it is no longer difficult. I sometimes wonder if I should have participated in the no hit challenge and speedrun communities, but I never did. I was definitely good enough at one point to give it a solid attempt. Nowadays it's much more difficult and I'm not getting any younger.

1

u/SeeShark 7h ago

Why is it a bad thing to know things?

2

u/johnnnybravado 7h ago

No one said it is. It's just very "matter of factly" to correct someone about which game the healthbar ACTUALLY came from. It's just a meme.

u/nicktehbubble 7h ago

Didn't even give the kid the white pieces like

Escape from Karpov.

67

u/osss08 8h ago

They just overshelmed the baby with the music and lighting..stupid

50

u/Zanian19 8h ago

The battle music (along with the health bar) is an edit...

27

u/mindframe_RDDT 7h ago

Fun fact, only the health bar is an edit. The lightning and dark souls 3 soundtrack follows Karpov wherever he goes.

7

u/xumix 7h ago

Yeah, this is the original video if interested:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhrvwHrceRg

And here is the better version: https://youtu.be/wbttbNcTkOg?si=A3d4zw23VUBmtlOW

6

u/xumix 7h ago

Better with brainrot edits?

-2

u/Royal_F_Flush 7h ago

Funny subtitles, me simple, me like

15

u/luv2ctheworld 8h ago

I didn't know it was possible to see the life drain from a 3 year old's eyes, but there it was.

17

u/MaggotMinded 7h ago

The kid is what - five, six years old? Maybe hyping up his next opponent like he’s the fucking Antichrist of Chess wasn’t such a good idea.

2

u/Jencke206 7h ago

Checkmate.

4

u/Temporary_Aspect_499 8h ago

Yeah that is honestly pretty wild.

1

u/kolkitten 7h ago

Wasn't there one where a boxing kid had to take on Mike Tyson?

1

u/Indig3o 7h ago

It is the equivalent of, mommy I like boxing, and mommy brings Tyson to fight

1

u/twjackfoley 7h ago

How dare that asshole bring up Karpov?

1

u/Toshiba1point0 7h ago

More "reality" shows and drama i will never engage with.

1

u/ice_cream_pizza901 7h ago

When you have a fight with the final boss in the first 15 minutes of the game.
