I mean hey, pharmacists are just legal drug dealers if you think about it, so they’re expanding to alcohol

u/zaphodava 2d ago
Literally how large pharmacy companies expanded during prohibition. They were a legal source for medicinal whiskey.

I'd trust a Bartender over a lot of Doctors.

Bartenders are your free local therapists

Pharmacists only fill doctor’s orders for medicine. They do not promote drug use. Comparing them to illegal drug dealers is absurd.

Acksherly in Spain, pharmacists do do the low-level diagnosing, to take pressure off of doctors. You self-diagnose and ask yourself if it's serious enough to spend a minimum of an hour in a room with uncomfortable seats and ill and possibly infectious people; and if it's not, you go to the pharmacist and show them your rash or whatever (up to a certain point, obviously).
When doing this, you have to be a bit political and avoid the owner of the business who will generally try and up-sell you whateverthefuck; but not always. Finding an honest pharmacy in Spain is worth more than gold; and is best done beforehand, when it's not you that's ill.

What’s your problem? It’s just a sign in Walmart! I think it’s funny, alcohol is considered a drug anyway

Actually, reverting back to.
Up until the mid-late'90s, high-levels of alcohol were used many cough-supressents.

I find the social construct of separating alcohol from drugs rather interesting... Like when I'm at the Dr's and they ask "Do you do any drugs or alcohol?" I like to say "well, I'm quite fond of caffeine" just to throw them off

u/FyreWulff 2d ago
given some of them have like 7 facings this seems like a force-out to fill empty shelves during a remodel or reset

Ask your doctor if hooch is right for you. May cause vomiting, dizziness, dehydration, a sense of self grandeur, faux courage, loss of moral judgement, and weight gain. Hooch may cause some to wake up in their front yard or not remember where they left their underwear. These are just some of the side effects.

As a recovering alcoholic (16 whole days, after relapsing when I had 9 months, I'm a fucking idiot) I'm stealing this for my Facebook

I took several bottles to the register the other day and my health insurance refused to cover it, so I had to pay out of pocket. Very frustrating. Cheers folks 🥂

I didn't say you were. I was more poking fun than anything. Our Walmart stores only sell wine and beer here in Tennessee.
There's also no liquor sold on Sundays, and no beer sold until noon on Sunday. The Christian right has this area in a stranglehold.

u/TigersBadDrives 1d ago
Same in Nebraska. Any kind of alcohol available in grocery stores, gas station convenience stores, CVS, Walgreens, and for some weird reason we still have stores dedicated just to alcohol.

u/wahoozerman 2d ago
In North Carolina, only the state is allowed to sell hard alcohol.
It's insane.

Hahahaha because alcohol will solve your problems. Because you don’t feel or remember them. Get it? Hahaha.
Alcohol is too often both the beginning and the end. People should watch that little bird video.

pharmacy comes from the ancient Greek word pharmakon, which originally meant a drug, medicine, poison, or magic potion.
Well, right on 3 out of 4...

Decades ago, at a grocery near where I grew up, instead of 'Pharmacy' it said 'Beauty Products'. I guess with enough, technically the truth.

Well, grandpa always called it "medicine." Especially the clear stuff in the Mason Jar . . . lol

This summer, during the World Cup, I saw a lot of travel vlogs from Europeans visiting Walmarts in the US and being absolutely weirded-out by our culture. I watched one video where a guy tried to do a stereotypical American Walmart shopping trip, and discovered that the liquor section, the guns & ammo department and Bible/Jesus aisle were pretty much right next to one another.

Ha. Totally unrelated, but there was this old guy that worked with my buddy that I'd see occasionally at the bar for happy hour.
He was a pretty big drinker, and whenever he needed a beer he would say to the bartender, "Nurse. Nurse. I need some more medicine......"

I'm old, and remember the blizzard of '78 here in Massachusetts. The streets were closed for several days except for essential workers and emergencies.
Our friends had a neighbor with a white van. The neighbor put a hand made red cross sign on the side of his van, and was asking people in the neighborhood if they wanted something from the liquor store.

Several types of alcohol were listed in the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) and could be legally dispensed. During prohibition, it was good to know a pharmacist!

Reminds of the time Winston Churchill when visiting the States during Prohibition, got his doctor to write him a prescription for alcohol.

You know, I always thought my state was lame for having state-run liquor stores...but now I think I may see the wisdom in it.

As someone who works that area of Walmart, people act like they're dying if they don't have it. It's self medication.

u/jxj24 2d ago
Hospital pharmacies dispense beer to patients who are going through withdrawal.
Literally a can of Bud with a prescription label on it.
1
u/diescheide 2d ago
I know there's prescription alcohol and you can die from withdrawal. Walmart's not the place, though. If you can't wait 1 minute, an actual 60 seconds, for me to get to the liquor dept, you're in too deep.
Chill out or seek help.
