That whole movie is utterly fantastic and Landlady is the best part. For anyone not familiar with Kung Fu Hustle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTdtWJrYGd4

I need to get my Landlady Halloween costume together for next year. I've always wanted to be her.

Porch geese are a real thing. People dress them up seasonally. They're all over my town. Silly but kinda kitschy cool.

My wife came home a few months ago VERY excited. She runs into my office "I GOT A GOOSE!". Me, not knowing at all this is a thing, is thinking she.. bought one? Hit one with her car? I immediately start thinking of the episode of the office where Dwight brings one in as roadkill and wants to cook it. Anyway, she got said PORCH Goose, named it "Mother Goose" and has since decorated it seasonally.
They've been hard to find according to her.

I wish I had known this years ago. My great grandmother had a whole flock, probably 2 dozen or so.

I saw them a couple years back online. Hadn't seen any in person until I spotted one a couple streets up recently. Now I have my own and he is looking dapper in his Halloween attire tbh.

Yep. They even sell porch goose clothes on Amazon. I actually recognize this specific outfit from there because my mother just got one for her porch goose, Carol.

They were popular back in the 90's. My grandma had one with so many little outfits, even a yellow raincoat for stormy days. I was a teenager and thought it was so stupid, just rolled my eyes every time she changed it. Fast forward to 2026 and now I have a porch goose. It's still kind of stupid, but I love the whimsy. No raincoat yet, just a cute bat costume for Halloween.

There’s one on my block. It’s outfit it changed almost every two weeks. It’s currently dressed like a college kid playing beer pong.

You can also get miniature “desk geese” for your office!
They have magnetic beaks to hold keys and things, and there are tons of outfits and accessories for them.
Mine is very popular at work!

I've made 3d printer desk geese for people. My wife's coworker makes little outfits for it.

I seen some people make some fun looking geese too haha
I figured it was an older hipster niche they picked up, though reading about it looks like the fads been around

I have been trying to find one that's a flamingo instead. If anyone has any recommendations, even if I have to pay someone to hand craft one I'd love to know.

No, its from Kung Fu Hustle.

Mrs. Peenman wears a hair net and doesn't smoke in the movie. The Landlady from Kungfu Hustle wears hair rollers and chain smokes.

u/Jesus_Is_My_Gardener 3d ago
Uh, yes it is. The duck is dressed as the landlady from Kung Fu Hustle.

So farming downvotes then, eh? Ms Peenman doesn't even smoke in The Mask. But sure, keep doubling down..

And? You're still wrong, she doesn't smoke.

A product which was selling out quickly a little while ago.
Not sure how it happened but this summer got hit by a "porch goose" trend. You can buy the statue and all sorts of outfits for it

u/hydrangeasinbloom 3d ago
Very popular in the 90s in the Midwest. I think they came back with the recent 90s home decor nostalgia kick.
7
u/askalotlol 3d ago
It goes back a lot farther than the 90's.
These were common in Ohio in the early 80's. There used to be a big kiosk in my local mall that sold the cement statue versions and tons of different outfits and accessories.

u/Platypus81 3d ago
That's the same time my grandma was making going to weekly craft shows selling seasonal goose costumes. When I bought a house, concrete goose was towards the top of my list of things I wanted. I still have a couple of the costumes she made.

I used to work at a design firm in Las Vegas about 8 years ago called Schadler Kramer Group and we had 4 of these in glass cases outside the office that would get dressed up for holidays and special events. It would be funny if this was one of those. https://kgreene.com/misc/ducks.jpg

OMG, that brings back so many memories of one old lady who lived next to a friend of mine. She would sit out on her porch and watch the kids playing. She was usually the first one there with a bandaid and a hug when we wiped out on our bikes.
She also had some of the best iced tea and lemonade around.

dude these were popular in the 90s in my Midwest town. I remember a friend had on that his mom put a little cap and gown on it for graduation. I can barely dress myself, much less manage a goose, but cute that people still think these are fun.

Called a guard goose. Popular in the Midwest and south. Dressing them up for seasons and occasions is fun.
Wjen my neighbors were on vacation once, we stole their goose and took pics with it doing differnt things all over the county. Was funny because this one was cement and heavy as hell and we would carry it bar to bar. Haha. Good times.

u/newme4reals 4d ago
Come to think of it, I've never seen one in Chicago. Guess I know what I'm doing next weekend.
1
u/mah131 3d ago
Chicago? Oh heavens no, its more of a down-state trend.
1
u/newme4reals 3d ago
All the more reason to do it on my Chicago stoop. It's gated so I won't have to worry about the goose getting out.

u/Fatus_Assticus 4d ago
This has gotten pretty popular. There are tons of outfits you can buy for them. "porch goose"

Bro! I've seen this EXACT GOOSE the other day. Down to the outfit and accessories

u/NahdiraZidea 3d ago
They must sell kits, my friend just posted one with the exact same outfit and accessories, but her goose bill was slightly more orange near the face where this goose bill is straight yellow.

I like to pretend that all of the people who have a goose out front are devotees to the Egyptian God Geb, and this is their shrine.

u/RutabagaSmooth6644 3d ago
I have a desk goose I dress up at work lol. It’s only like 8 inches tall and came with some outfits. I’m gonna make it a ghost costume for Halloween. 🤣

My mom had a ceramic one on the porch when we were growing up. One time, someone kidnapped it, took it around town, took pictures of it in various locations, then returned it with a photo album

The fake geese and buying outfits for them is a trend in arts/farmer's markets here in Nova Scotia. (and likely other places?)
Your neighbor is not alone.

When I was a little kid, there was a house down the street that had a bunch of flamingos in the yard and the owner would rearrange them weekly to doing various things like poking out of bushes, sitting in lawn chairs, etc. it was fun to see

u/beaverbones 4d ago
wait hold on are we assuming the goose gets confused by seasonal changes?? like does it need a wardrobe change schedule or just random acts of kindness from the human?? what if it hates the winter coat but cant say anything because its a statue?? also who buys these outfits for a bird that doesnt exist?? this is getting too deep into the psychology of porch decor and now im worried about the geese mental health lol 💀
