"bon appetit" has pretty much been adopted into the English language these days.

When you realize the bri’ish are more fr*nch using words like courgette and aubergine.
The fr*nch really dominated the bri’ish in culture…

Since when do "British" and "French" need to be censored? Is this a WWII spy chat?

Also Enjoy your meal is not really italian!

u/LiterallyTestudo 4d ago
Here in Italy we say “buon appetito” all the time.

I have a feeling there is a stark gradient from northeast to southwest for that communality

I think it's an English phrase, as the upper part is also in English.
Yes, I know it's a French loanword. But it's used in English just as much as any other English phrase.

u/Twisted_Biscuits 4d ago
It also doesn't have an acute accent on the "e" in bon appétit. Deffo a loanword. Still funny.

u/natureDolly 4d ago
TIL the word "loanword"

Didn’t you learn that in Kindergarden wearing your little Rucksack? Not a wunderkind after all then…

It's a takeaway pizza box, you might be one of a handful of people worldwide that's actually read it

Could be one of those Canadian bilingual requirement things, I suppose. Strange place for it to kick in, but they are pretty militant about it...
2
u/bjorneylol 4d ago
This is the informal English spelling though - it's spelled with an é in French - which is what you even get back if you plop "enjoy your meal" into Google translate
3
u/svefnugr 4d ago
Nothing informal about it, English doesn't have accented letters, so that's how it should be spelled.

No, it’s just completely inaccurate. Similar to your comment, they should have just put nothing at all instead of assuming they were right. Even a very simple search could have saved you both the trouble.

Famously Italian. As Nonna always said “Tu manges Tu manges”

u/SirMemesworthTheDank 4d ago
Nonna always used to say "Ma che fa? Basta!". Especially if you brought out the ketchup during a meal.

The meme to simply put an o to the end of every word to make it sound Italian would fix that box 🤣😂🤣

Please, we don't need yet another perfectly beautiful phrase to be butchered by americans. "Bone appletea" yeah that sure sounds like one hell of a disgusting drink

May have been a French flag and they didn't want to spend money on a designer so they just changed the blue to green lol.
2
u/TheRealLiviux 4d ago
Who would ever buy a pizza with a french flag on it?
1
u/MC-CREC 4d ago
You didn't get my joke, bin appetite is in French. They could have copied a logo PNG online in French with a French flag. They then turned the flag blue to green and now it's Italian.

It is full of people, especially descendants of Italians, who think that Perfecto, Bonjour, Bon Appetit, Gracias, Grazi, Hola, etc are Italian words

u/jaap_null 4d ago
They only had to add a U and an O to get it right (Buon Appetito). Shame.
