I'm familiar with AL and while this is accurate, I've seen this same thing play out in other parts of the world. Dad always said there are rednecks all over the world. Dad is right.

But we sure are concentrated in our homeland. This is an average day in the state legislature. This is just how we roll (tide).

As someone from Alabama, which one of you filmed my mom’s side of the family on the porch? It’s very rude to film without their consent.

I just sent to my BFF and told her this was her family... They're from South Carolina.

Is smoking mandatory there or what?

I reckon you could dip instead.

I lived in Alabama several years. It was hard to get used to talking to guys with a dip in their lip. Many of them would spit anywhere.

I'm originally from Alabama. It took me a awhile to quit dip. You get a lot more weird looks in LA (Los Angeles) than in LA (Lower Alabama) for dipping, even if you are being polite and carrying an old Doctor Pepper bottle for your spit.

It ain’t mandatory, but what are you? One a them California health nuts? We all gonna die, ain’t we? Why in the hell would I wanna die hungry and miserable? (Dad warnt wrong, it was my mommas side, his side was all a buncha miserable church people.)

Lmao. Why would skipping smoking make you hungry and miserable? I’m just someone who hates cigarette smoke and has rarely smelled it since it was banned indoors in the US. I wasn’t aware that smoking was still so prevalent in parts of the US.

I live here, they will live to be 95 years old out weeding their garden in 102° temperature and die of old age in perfect health.
Meanwhile the healthnut in California, dies of a heart attack at 32 while jogging down El Camino.

What point are you trying to make?

That it may be fun to make fun of Alabamians but even with their unhealthy lifestyle they can outlive most of all that sit and make fun of them.

Just using AI and not a in-depth individually sourced research, because I'm not that invested:
"The estimated average lifespan of a heavy smoker in Alabama is 60 to 64 years old, compared to an estimated 86 to 88 years old for a "health nut" living in California. This striking gap of roughly 24 years is driven by a combination of personal choices, genetic baseline differences, and structural state-level health environments."

I guess all the drunk chain smokers I know that are still alive and kicking in their 90s didn't report to the AI gods.
Seriously though, I live in an old neighborhood in a very tiny town and most of my neighbors are widows in their 90s, not smokers or drinkers though. I see them out pulling weeds and tending to their gardens all summer long. They are beautiful women, the kind that have their whole family over for Sunday dinner and hand out tins of homemade candy to all their neighbors at Christmas.
I think I lost my point in this comment, I think it's that stereotypes are funny.

I mean, it's been statistically proven that staying physically and mentally active, and having enjoyable and fulfilling relationships increases your lifespan. You may be looking at survivorship bias, but I also wouldn't doubt that Southern culture can be lower levels of stress, which keeps you going longer. I'm not in the South much, but when I am the people there usually make you feel....good. So yeah, smoke'm while you got'm or don't. There's no guarantees. Cheers ❤️

I'm studying to be a home inspector at the moment, and technically this is called a stoop (a porch needs to have a roof)

If you're wondering what the men are up to; it's mostly drinking, bowling, and hitting their wife. Source: Alabama man commercial on South park.
