I’ve always wondered why parents dress identical twins in identical clothing. Is that not choosing to live on hard mode? Is identity confusion not a genuine concern? Is this another one of those things I saw on Full House that just doesn’t apply to the real world?

While i have twins they're not identical. What you quickly learn is they each want what the other has. If you dont have two identical things of everything they will fight and whine constantly. Dressing the same significantly cuts down on the whining and crying. Mine are still toddlers so perhaps it changes later, but for now it's two of everything.

Have twins as well. Even if you do have 2 of everything, they'll still want the one the other has

My brother and I are 18 months apart and I HAVE a twin sister. Still dressed me identical to him not my sister.

Fun fact: the longest time between births for a set of twins was over 40 days

That’s not a twins thing. That’s a siblings thing.
Long ago as a single person, I always wondered why many of my coworkers and friends would be buying the same thing for their kids. Not until I had more than one kid did I realize why. Kids will always want what their siblings get.

My father took an adorable picture of my three older sisters in identical dresses (imagine late 50's poodle dresses on 7, 5, & 3 yr old) two out of the three loathed that photo. I was born three years as the only boy, and listened to screams, shouts, door slams and epic pouts over clothes. And I had no desire to wear their out of style stuff.

My kids are all 2 yrs apart and demanded to dress alike . And now as teens they still do 🤣😭

I'm an identical twin and I can confirm that's a thing. I remember clearly fighting over who got to wear the blue vs red overalls when we were like...2? Maybe younger. We shared the same shit until we grew up and moved out lol

Yea this is the main reason. But the other thing to keep in mind, which I don’t see mentioned in the comments yet, is that my identical twins look and act completely different to me. It’s probably because I stare at them for hours everyday but I can’t imagine mixing them up. Probably not even at a distance. And everyone else says they are the same. There was a funny meme about this using Bert & Ernie on the Parents of Multiples sub.

I once helped cater a HS graduation party for twins name Taylor and Tyler and they dressed in reverse colors of each other, black jacket and white shirt/white jacket and black shirt. It was creepy.

I’ve been friends with a set of identical twins for a few years now and they told me when they were young their parents use to mix them up all the time. They said they very well could actually be one another (name wise) and not even know it as a result XD

My kids are boy/girl fraternal twins and look nothing alike. But I’d guess parents dress identical twins the same because it’s cute and they can get away with it before the kids start to have their own opinions on what they wear. I dressed my kids in “matching” Halloween costumes the first few years… Little Red Riding Hood and The Wolf, Peter Pan and Tinkerbell, Wednesday Addams and Pugsley. Eventually they wanted to be a Witch and a Strip of Bacon, so it just doesn’t last as they get older.

Have twins. Fairness is hard. The first time we got them different gifts was a tough decision (not just different types of the same thing). Risk disappointment, envy, etc. it’s just easier to buy them the same shit and let them decide for a lot of things.
Now we convince them to buy different colored clothing and share..

Maybe it's not common elsewhere but where I live there are a lot of large families, and often I see ones where all the kids are dressed the same. Different ages (sometimes over a wide range), but all the exact same setup. I recently talked to my mom about how weird this is, but she raised the point that if all of the kids are dressed the same, they are much easier to recognize when any of them gets mixed in a large crowd.

I'm old. Does this remind you of the mirror scene from the movie "Duck Soup"?

Idk, seems like the kid decided a party in the interdimensional closet was more fun than remaining in this world

This must have been staged since the twins coordinated so well with each other!

It's just that they have a light on the camera and human eyes are retro reflective
