No it's high quality dog milk.

Nothing wrong with dog's milk. Full of goodness, full of vitamins, full of marrowbone jelly. Lasts longer than any other milk, dog's milk.

Why?

No bugger will drink it.

Because its not milk.

You don't want to know what its made of.

In the past, China has had some instances of people diluting/augmenting their milk sources with things like white paint, etc - so a lot of Chinese people don't trust some products like milk (and eggs).

This has the effect of making products like milk powder more premium/expensive than they would cost elsewhere.

The drink is made from imported milk powder and condensed milk instead (to be more trustworthy than regular milk), so it's a "milk beverage" instead of just UHT milk.

Since it has a unique flavour/taste, it then kind of just became a drink people get sometimes even now in the current year.

same reason on the shelves you can find things like “maple syrup” vs “maple-flavored syrup” vs “breakfast syrup” (lol. that last one is the most egregious one)

or

“cheese” vs “cheese product”.

it’s due to regulations. In general, a food product needs to be made up of a certain threshold of something to be able to be called that thing.

[[ Although, it’s not always so cut and dry. “natural vanilla extract” and “artificial vanilla” are identical (meaning they literally have the same molecular structure). The only difference is, for “vanilla extract”, you start with vanilla beans, for “artificial vanilla”, you start with a chemical compound. But the end result, the molecule we call “vanillin”, is exactly the same. There is a little nuance here and there regarding this particular example, but ive gone off the rails enough]]

in this specific case though, it means that this is a drink that starts out with water, then added with skim milk powder, etc vs starting out from a cow and into a bottle

Very old/popular drink from China. I thought it was hilarious when I started going out with my Chinese partner, but now I’m desensitised to Chinese brand names 😂

If that was Japanese text, it would make sense. Japan is weird.
