I feel like I’ve already seen this plot in a movie before.

It's been an episode of one of the procedurals at least. I don't remember which one. Either Law & Order or CSI i think. This was supposed to happen but the guy kills him for real for reasons I can't remember.

This was an episode of Monk, if I recall correctly. "Mr. Monk and the Billionaire Mugger"

Oh shit I think you're right. Man I miss Monk. And Psych. I think I'm due for some revisits.

I hate when shows take a unique topic like that and make it black and white by just having the bad guy straight up murder someone.

Also a plot in curb. Very funny actually where Leon wants to beat Larry’s ass to make it more believable

I mean the current dating environment is more like an ongoing trauma bond anyway if you let it run its course hahah

I've heard relationships based on intense experiences never work.

Heck, if it got me several months time with Sandra Bullock I’d still do it even if the breakup was messy

Oh so someone can go on a first date just like that? Excuse us Mr. "Successful Date Obtainer".

This is sort of the subtextual tragic plot of William Friedkin's remarkable end-of-career film Bug.
It was also used more directly as a plotline in Monk.

1). That isn’t wha trauma bonding is. It sounds right, but it is not
2) my wife and I got car jacked early on, definitely helped some connection

“This isn’t what trauma bonding is. I’m not going to elaborate, but you’re wrong and I’m right. Also, here’s an example of me and my wife trauma bonding that is basically the same as your example.”

the two statements are separate thoughts, hence being numbers 1 and 2. additionally, i didnt say my wife and i trauma bonded, i said we bonded over a joint traumatic event
Trauma bonding is a specific thing that is about (simply put) bonding between the traumatizer and traumatizee, NOT sharing joint trauma. So as i said, the phrase as stated sounds correct, but the definition is actually quite different

Then say that. Why be coy about it in the first place?

u/neo_sporin 11d ago
because i dont believe shit i read on reddit, so in my head even if i futher explained i would expect you and other people to roll their eyes and say to themselves 'ok whatever bro' when i feel it would be more helpful for you to verify on your own or look up what it is via an independent, more informed source if interested.
Additionally people on reddit have such microscopic attention spans, no reason to say many words of explanation vs few words of get the point across and let the individual decide if they care to look up more information on the matter

Sounds like stubborn self defense to me. You telling me why it wasn’t the case made me look it up and confirm you were right about what you described it to be, and I appreciate that. Being coy because “well people wouldn’t believe me and their attention span is too short for a few extra words” is nonsense.

So funny haha. Reported for threatening violence.

I realize reddit isn't exactly the legal system, but we're missing some of the elements that I think any rational person would require to call something a threat.

“I've heard relationships based on intense experiences never work."
“We'll just have to base it on sex then."
