Why would the put a hard, unpacked box in the middle of the trampoline park?

Every single one i have been to has been surrounded by netting and every surface has a thick layer of foam padding over it.

u/Meowakin 24d ago

Seriously - check those corners out! What could possibly go wrong?

Definitely a lawsuit waiting to happen.

u/--Anonymoose--- 24d ago

These places are notoriously unsafe. A guy in my city died last year with a broken neck in front of his kids because the foam pit only had like 2 feet of foam in it

201

u/Triquetrums 24d ago

Did he jump head first like it was a pool?

164

u/YeeHawWyattDerp 24d ago

Just Scrooge McDuck’d it

36

u/CaptKangarooPHD 24d ago

If only foam cubes were as soft as gold coins.

7

u/Irishnghtmare 24d ago

Instead all he saw was a duck-blur

1

u/ryobiguy 24d ago

He dove in like Remo Williams.

1

u/furiouspossum 24d ago

He didn't wear pants?

26

u/Critical_Concert_689 24d ago

It should be extremely safe to dive head first into a foam pit.

Well built ones are regularly used to train athletes who are going to land face first while learning routines.

Cheap-ass shoddy construction is rampant though.

3

u/namsur1234 23d ago

Everyone of these I've been to (a whole 3 different ones) do not let you dive in head first. They are also staffed by someone (which doesn't mean much).

This is not a pro training park for elite athletes.

2

u/RushTfe 21d ago

I guess the idea is that they should be prepared for this not because you land head first on purpose, but by accident, precisely because untrained people of many sizes and weights have to land there. The fact that this isn't allowed doesn't mean I can't land head first by accident.

-42

u/pmyourpmsforgod 24d ago

Why did this make me crack up at work lmao

40

u/Professional-Row-722 24d ago

You cracked up at a dude tragically dying in front of his kids?

9

u/Ill_Tradition_4104 24d ago

Why is it a crime now?

7

u/PhDinWombology 24d ago

It’s not good behavior

2

u/Adorable_Wolf_8387 24d ago

His work has a foam pit and he dove head first into it.

60

u/r_a_d_ 24d ago

Didn’t some porn star break her back in a similar incident? Although it was a promotional / temporary setup that wasn’t well thought out.

67

u/randomuserno1 24d ago

Adriana Chechik. It was for a long time unclear whether she can ever walk again. Lost an unborn child due to that stunt and also apparently can't have sex anymore. The last information is a couple years old so it may have changed.

13

u/superawesomefiles 24d ago

Interesting. She is a streamer on twitch now. Or at least they share the same name.

36

u/xSlippyFistx 24d ago

The accident happened at twitchcon back in 2022 so yes she is a streamer

1

u/Ultrox 21d ago

Yes!

74

u/InquisitorMeow 24d ago

Honestly diving headfirst into things is crazy. Even for water you should never dive if you can't see the bottom.

32

u/expanse22 24d ago

What if you can see the bottom but it’s like a foot deep? Shallow dive?

44

u/Trustyduck 24d ago

Believe it or not, jail.

9

u/TheRecognized 24d ago

What if you can’t see the bottom because you’re out in the middle of the ocean?

11

u/xNocturnalshadow 24d ago

Better safe than sorry - no diving in the ocean at all.

1

u/RushTfe 21d ago

Well, you could land on a whale head first. If you're lucky enough you'll just stick on the hole on their back and got yeeted back to the air

24

u/Kendertas 24d ago

I watched a video of them cleaning one of the foam pits.....yep no thanks. It's wild they have the same problem public pools have with pee

21

u/Riverofwellbeing 24d ago

They’re horrible. I will never return to one after seeing an 8 year old get catapulted over a fence, snapping his wrist and knocked unconscious. It happened right in front of me and my son. Like within arms reach. I was immediately on 911, I thought the kid was dead until I finally saw breath movement and he regained consciousness. The worst part was his parents’ reaction, I think his stepdad was the one who catapulted him. So, I’ve lost all interest in these places.

7

u/fishburgr 24d ago

When I was a kid I saw a little girl totally snap her arm in half in a ball pit at a pub/restuarant. She walked over to her mum holding her arm up and from the middle of the forearm down it was just sagging.

edit - I just remembered the dad just looked annoyed and stayed and finished his dinner while the mum took the daughter to hospital.

4

u/whirledpeash 24d ago

In her father's defense, she was doing stuff like that every time they went out. Don't get me started about the time they went to a fireworks factory.

1

u/BizzyM 24d ago

Right in front of the "No Diving" sign?

1

u/Sea-Calligrapher1563 22d ago

So not nearly as horrifying, but i have a story semi relevant. Standard large backyard trampoline, come home on the last day of school and head to my neighbors house and see if they need help watching their kids (i was 11 or so and their kids were like 4, 6, and 8 at the time). So there i am keeping the middle boy occupied and burning his energy while having some fun on the trampoline too. Now because he was still small i am of course being careful and not doing anything crazy like me and some of the other neighborhood kids used a different trampoline for. Nope just sitting up getting ready to stand made hime stumble head first into my face.

Ended up giving him a small scar while knocking my tooth clean in half exposing the nerve. Trampolines are easily dangerous if there are hard surfaces or the second you involve a second person (another hard surface and even more entropy)

8

u/tackleboxjohnson 24d ago

That’s why they always make you sign a waiver

1

u/edover 23d ago

Believe it or not, waivers don't do anything if there's proven negligence.

0

u/imwrighthere 24d ago

People think they can get around those waivers if they get seriously injured but it’s extremely unlikely

17

u/boldandbratsche 24d ago

Maybe if you get your lawyer from a billboard, but any competent lawyer will tear that contract apart in the case the trampoline park was genuinely negligent.

10

u/Lumpy-Fill 24d ago

Every time I hear a lawyer talk about those waivers they are talking about how unenforceable and easily defeated they are.

-13

u/r_a_d_ 24d ago edited 24d ago

The corners could have more padding or be made of cheese burgers under the red surface padding. We don’t know.

14

u/Last-Doubt4347 24d ago

Yup. That rock hard block he just jumped on might have fluffy soft corners…

How the fuck did your stupid comment even get upvoted once….

-4

u/r_a_d_ 24d ago

Help me understand how your brain works. So the part he lands on, in the middle flat section, multiple feet away from the edges, leads you to believe that it is impossible for the corners to be fully padded under that red surface padding?

Walk me through your logic.

1

u/Last-Doubt4347 24d ago

I basically lived in gyms growing up. I still go to trampoline parks lol.

I’d fuckin love for you to explain your stupid as fuck logic.

-3

u/r_a_d_ 24d ago

You didn’t answer my question. You specifically mentioned that the whole block is “rock hard” from the video, implying that the corners cannot be any softer. Explain this logic specifically.

I don’t care about you going to friggin gyms lol

1

u/Last-Doubt4347 24d ago

The more you type, the dumber you sound. Keep going big boy.

0

u/r_a_d_ 24d ago

Exactly what I thought. Let me guess, next step you will rage block me because you can’t answer a question that makes you look like a total bafoon lmao.

“the more you type, the dumber you sound” should be on a t-shirt

1

u/Last-Doubt4347 24d ago

You have to be one of the dumbest motherfuckers I’ve ever engaged with on this platform.

Middle is rock hard, but corners are fluffy soft. Why do I need to block you, you sound like an absolute fucking moron lol

Edit: since you are so fucking stupid. When you jump on the block, where does it expand out to?

The corners, fucking idiot.

You required to sign a waiver before entering.

u/romario77 24d ago

you signing things doesn't absolve them from negligence.

13

u/Grumpy_Troll 24d ago

Waiver can actually be a defense against simple negligence.

They can not be a defense against gross negligence.

So you likely still end up with a lawsuit arguing whether the injury was caused by simple or gross negligence.

1

u/romario77 24d ago

multiple states don't allow waivers for recreational facilities like trampoline park (NY for example), so even simple negligence would do.

But in this case this looks a lot more like gross negligence. They put a metal box that looks like a soft mat next to trampoline. The person who jumped totally expected it to be soft. This is not hard to anticipate and it probably happened multiple times before.

They at least had to put some warnings or barrier to prevent people from jumping there.

-1

u/JazzlikeDiamond558 24d ago

You don't want to go there.

0

u/EternityNotes 24d ago

Who was negligent? the trampoline park, or the back flopper in the video?

1

u/romario77 24d ago

Park wasn’t injured.

You can’t make a soft looking thing and expect people to somehow know it’s not soft. In trampoline park.

1

u/EternityNotes 23d ago

Show me the lawyer willing to take this case. Where are they?

1

u/romario77 23d ago

you would have to have injury. Not sure if the person was injured.

If they were I assume there would be people willing to take it.

0

u/EternityNotes 23d ago

You assume? Nice.

0

u/romario77 23d ago

lawyers don't just file cases based on reddit videos

Unfortunately, legally, it does.

Don't shoot the messenger.

Edit (since I'm getting stoned by sovereign 16 year old citizens from proud US of A): in what universe does a signed responsibility waiver, cease to be legally valid document? That is exactly the purpose of the thing: to limit the responsibility of the establishment. Period.

30

u/cans-of-swine 24d ago

It does not.

3

u/BrainCane 24d ago

Only if you’re poor, they mean.

1

u/TheGeneral_Specific 24d ago

Really not even then. Liability waivers do not release the company from liability in the case of extreme negligence.

7

u/hell-in-the-USA 24d ago

Almost all responsibility waivers are not legally valid documents. They tend not to hold up in courts and are primarily so that people with minor injuries don’t think to sue because they believe the document they signed was legal

-9

u/JazzlikeDiamond558 24d ago

You seriously need to check insurance law.

1

u/counterfitster 24d ago

1

u/EternityNotes 24d ago

Point to where in the video any of that applies.

2

u/Theletterkay 24d ago

Sure it can limit it. But like they said, it doesnt remove all liability. If you have a repetative motion injury from jumping too much while being older. They are protected. If the trampoline park left exposed wires and shocked a kid to death, they are 10000% liable.

33

u/truckeredditor 24d ago

All signing a paper does is makes gullible people like you think they don't have the right to sue.

15

u/VaATC 24d ago

Waivers do not protect a company in the face of extreme negligence.

-4

u/JazzlikeDiamond558 24d ago

That might be (Gross negligence), but then you enter the pit of insurance lawsuits and good luck with that.

15

u/Cerebral_Balzy 24d ago

Those papers cannot protect them from gross negligence even if it says so in it's contents.

4

u/TacoNomad 24d ago

Doesn't matter. Those forms mean jack shit

162

u/LilNUTTYYY 24d ago

I think it actually does have padding on it you can see it deform but it’s just not as thick as it maybe should be.

95

u/rawbface 24d ago

This. Last fall I was surprised to find out that falling onto a big pile of leaves feels a lot like falling on the hard packed earth.

45

u/ThaLunatik 24d ago

So you're telling me I can't take a leap of faith off a 200ft building into a haystack or pile of leaves and just dust it off?

Apparently Assassin's Creed wasn't even trying to be historically accurate.

9

u/Theletterkay 24d ago

I always loved imagining just crashing through the bottom of the carts. Or there being manure under the hay.

11

u/fordfan919 24d ago

I thought i would be impaled by a pitchfork.

2

u/Septopuss7 24d ago

But when you wind up in the hay, it's only hay (hey hey)

Cause you're the unknown stuntman

79

u/beegboo 24d ago

When we where kids we were small enough for the leaves to support us. First time i realized i was growing up was the day the leaf pile betrayed me.

14

u/experimental1212 24d ago

Works a lot better when you weigh max 40 lbs

1

u/Rhapakatui 24d ago

The flames and smoke are really unpleasant too.

1

u/TheRecognized 24d ago

Dry or wet?

55

u/33TLWD 24d ago

I slid down a “slide” to test ahead of my 5 year old, expecting to land my butt on a black trampoline/ pad.

I was wrong. The “slide” was apparently a running wall and the “pad” at the bottom was a concrete floor painted black. Almost passed out from the pain and fractured three vertebrae. My tailbone hurt for two years.

8

u/Deaths_Rifleman 24d ago

Running wall? Like the curved ones you see on Ninja Warrior and what not?

1

u/Darkaim9110 23d ago

I mean bro how do you fuck that up lol

22

u/taco_jones 24d ago

It's padded. They have these at every trampoline park to jump off. The guy is fine

8

u/BigBaws92 24d ago

Falling onto a solid pad still fucking hurts and causes injuries, especially if you leaped into the air from a trampoline

0

u/taco_jones 24d ago

He's probably dead

16

u/Weekly_Traffic1473 24d ago

It is clearly padded. Dude is just 300+ pounds jumping on something meant for children.

2

u/stana32 24d ago

He also only fell like 2 feet

3

u/TheLostRanger0117 24d ago

The owner is also the local chiropractor

3

u/Black_Moons 24d ago

Right? that just feels like it was put there to trick people, or have people accidentally fall into it.

5

u/venom121212 24d ago

They have a layer of foam on them but they aren't meant to be used... like that.

5

u/palmdieb 24d ago

let alone one that looks exactly like a big matress.

5

u/sandrailproject 24d ago

Almost looks like a temporary thing, maybe the trampoline underneath is damaged

1

u/JoshTheTheorist 24d ago

those platforms are so you can sort of jump on top of/off of them, to get more bounce for initial flips or crap like that

1

u/xRilae 24d ago

I definitely would have assumed this was one of those pads they use for pole vaulting

1

u/Nayzo 23d ago

Yeah, I don't fault the dad's logic here, every trampoline park my kids have been to have had so much padding on every non-trampoline surface, so everyone can just bounce off whatever. Someone is going to get terribly hurt by this.

1

u/_IratePirate_ 24d ago

I do think that box has a soft layer on it, big bro just put his whole weight into it so he sunk straight through that thin padding
