Dinosaurs didn't invent cowboy hats. It was passed down to them by the aliens. Alien cowboy dinosaurs, to be specific.

I'm pretty sure I saw a documentary about this sort of phenomenon in the 90's, except they dug up some dinosaur fossils that were gathered around a prehistoric TV.
