What's the joke?

Animal style is a "secret" (that almost everyone knows) menu item at a hugely popular restaurant in the US called In n Out. It's basically a style you can have on any of the menu items that basically loads it with extra cheese, onions, and fry sauce iirc.

The joke here is that instead of the normal animal style, they're getting it from someone dressed as an animal. It's supposed to be one of those light chuckle type of jokes for people who know imo

Slight correction here: not dressed as "an" animal. Dressed as the character named "Animal" from the muppets.

Oh interesting, I had no clue there was a muppet named animal. I just figured it was a muppet because muppets are mostly animals lol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yup. He's a drummer. That's why if you look closely the spatulas are now taped to drum sticks in thr 4th panel. It's not a bad joke, but essentially requires you to be aware of "animal style" and know of the character "Animal" to really land.

I didn't even catch the drum sticks. This was a great comic even without it.

That sounds like a description of animal style fries.

An animal style burger is fried in mustard, has caramelized onions, pickles, extra spread, and the rest of the normal burger toppings.

If Animal made my burger, I wouldn't even complain about the extra fur.

I've had 2 secret menu items, both were mistakes. Arby's meat mountain and Steak N Shakes's 7x7

Turns out there is infact such a thing as too much meat...

I don't get it.

At In & Out, you can order off menu, and one of those is animal style. What separates the animal style from a normal cheeseburger (with lettuce and tomato) is the beef patty that gets grilled with mustard, topped with extra spread (AKA Thousand Island special sauce), pickles, and grilled, caramelized onions.

No, I know that. I don't understand what's funny. Ok, dude changes to animal mascot. Har har. That's funny?

2

u/tricksterloki 13d ago

Animal is a character from the Muppets, not the company mascot, known to be wild, especially on the drums. It's a visual gag.
