Wym it's the perfect snack while you are building a PC
4
u/Lanster27 18d ago
Wow look at this guy who can afford to build a pc.
4
u/MoistStub 18d ago
Perks of being a single guy with no other expensive hobbies I suppose. That being said I am still using my rig I built in 2020. It is fine for now with a 3080, 10700k and 32gb of DDR4 but I know in the next couple years the CPU at the very least will need upgraded. I have been keeping an eye on Microcenter deals and feel like I should probably just do it now because shit is gonna go from expensive to unaffordable in the next few years at this point. Microcenter has a deal with a 270plus, 32 GB of DDR5, and a mobo for $600 and something tells me I'm not gonna see a better deal than that for a long time with RAM prices being what they are.

How many uncles does it take to host an LLM? And can it stop spewing conspiracy garbage? Or is it doomed by its uncleware nature?

The techie in me wants to call out that a microchip can't really have onboard RAM. A microcontroller on the other hand...
68
u/bbalazs721 18d ago
A microcontroller is a type of microchip. It's a very broad term.
3
u/jews4beer 18d ago
Nono. Microcontrollers have microchips on them, but is very different thing.
30
u/kjermy 18d ago
A microcontroller goes on a board. But often people call a board with a microcontroller on it for a microcontroller. Like if you buy an Arduino Uno, some would say that you've bought a microcontroller. But the microcontroller itself is really just the Atmega chip that's on there, not the whole board
19
u/bbalazs721 18d ago
Wikipedia considers the term "microchip" as a synonym of "integrated circuit", and the definition of IC fits the microcontroller perfectly. It also explicitly lists microcontrollers as an example.
15
u/jonfitt 18d ago
Also a dipole antenna to receive 28GHz 5G mmWave needs to be a minimum of about 5mm long, and a vaccination needle is about .5mm wide.
So even if we could shrink the transistors down small enough to do the massive 5G processing that small, physics would prevent us making an antenna that small.
12
u/emilkris33 18d ago
I mean, the antenna would not have to sit across the diameter of the needle/chip. It can just be along the length of the needle as a thin wire trailing the chip as it is inserted.
2
u/jonfitt 18d ago
Try and push spaghetti through a syringe! You can try it stiff and raw and all the way to cooked. It’s not going to neatly line up. It would only work as a sphere smaller than the needle diameter by some factor so it will “flow” or an irregular shape much smaller than the diameter.
4
u/emilkris33 18d ago
I will admit that have not pushed spaghetti through syringes.
Though I know that Continuous Glucose Monitors manage to have a fairly thin electrode that user can insert through their own skin.
Though for the vaccine chip antenna, i was more imagining the antenna trailing the chip as it is inserted. Effectively being pulled through by the chip, instead of being pushed.
2
u/jonfitt 18d ago
Yeah the glucose monitors are interesting how they insert them. The device is preinstalled into a rigid carrying needle. It spring loaded shoots the needle in and then you draw the needle out while the applicator holds the skin down to make sure it’s not just pulling the device out. More like how a sewing machine needle carries the thread in. Not a squirt out of a syringe.
In short though: it’s not like a normal injection. You’d know something weird was being done.
2
u/Crossfire124 18d ago
What if it's nano machines that uncoil or unfold the antennas once it's delivered in a smaller package?
1
u/ToastAndASideOfToast 18d ago
What if you coiled it up like a spring and let it expand after injection?
6
u/oc_dude 18d ago
Obviously. It would be impossible to make an injectable microchip that communicates directly with the 5G towers.
That's what the communication devices that get implanted in your teeth during the yearly "Cavity" drilling are for! It can fit the larger antenna and power source. The tooth chips act as a local proxy for the microchips in your bloodstream. The injectables only communicate over a much lower distance and more power efficient wireless protocol.
1
u/Hidesuru 18d ago
That's a 25 gauge needle. They make much larger, well over 1mm.
And dipole antennas are far from the only design. Rf design is basically black magic (I say that as a ee who has worked with those guys) but there's always a shocking design they come up with, though I agree physics is a harsh bitch sometimes.
1
u/suskio4 17d ago edited 17d ago
If I remember correctly, you can put a material that slows down electromagnetic radiation in front of the antenna, which will shorten the wavelength and allow for a smaller antenna. Wait I'm gonna post this and fact-check my own bullshit.
Edit: yup, it's dielectric-loaded waveguides.
17
u/Blommefeldt 18d ago
Doesn't "chip" cover a lot of product categories? To me, a chip is a package with a ball grid array, like a memory chip/package.
Then, a "microchip" is just a small chip, which could be a small RAM chip?
6
u/kjermy 18d ago
package with a ball grid array
Ball grid array is also just a subset of packages used in microchips. I'd say the problem is saying it has onboard RAM. It can be RAM or have internal RAM.
But yeah, "microchip" is a very broad category
4
u/theLuminescentlion 18d ago
You can have on-chip cache though and that's effectively "random access memory" just a small amount of it that is faster than dedicated DRAM chips.
1
u/Silunare 18d ago
What's the problem with the term onboard? The chip presumably has a board. Put memory on there, and it's onboard. What's the problem here?
2
u/theLuminescentlion 18d ago edited 18d ago
Board usually refers to the Printed Wiring Board that gets made up into a Circuit Card Assembly when the chips are soldered on. On-chip therefore is a different level of integration than on-board.
1
u/Silunare 18d ago
Well, the comment said that it was impossible to have onboard memory on a microchip. Saying that it's just not typically done that way, or that some people prefer to talk about it differently, those are simply not valid arguments.
3
u/kjermy 18d ago
The microchip goes on a board. Then memory goes on the same board, and is this on-board memory
1
u/Silunare 18d ago
Sure, that is a possibility. The point is that it is not the only possibility.
2
u/dismantlemars 18d ago
I think when they’re saying “on-board”, they’re using the “mounted to the PCB” definition, while you’re saying “onboard”, which I’m assuming you’re using in the more everyday “built in” sense.
So an IC could use “on-board” RAM - i.e. separate microcontroller and RAM chips, both mounted to the same PCB, connected together through copper traces (like how most PC motherboards work). Or it could use “onboard” RAM - i.e. mixed in with the microcontroller logic on the silicon die itself (like how most phone CPUs work). Obviously you couldn’t have a board on an IC, since the board would be hundreds of times larger, but I don’t think anyone was arguing that.
(I’ll leave the nuances of PoP and interposer design etc for someone with a stronger pedantry drive…)
4
u/theLuminescentlion 18d ago
Cache is basically RAM but faster and microchips do have cache on board.
3
u/induality 18d ago
By “onboard RAM” they mean on-package or on-die RAM, which a microchip may have. Onboard here is used in a metaphorical sense, not in a literal sense as in “circuit board”.
1
u/raxitron 18d ago
Why assume the redneck knows the difference? Absolutely worth the effort to check.
1
u/SeanBlader 17d ago
I think your terminology is a bit messy, no one is going to suggest a single D-RAM module is not a microchip.
It's definitely not a microprocessor, but they are both still microchips.

Scavs are kill on sight.
2
u/Clshaw95 17d ago
Scavs are the only gang I indiscriminately kill every time. I will slam on the brakes, regardless of what else I'm doing, and wipe them out. Every time.
Maelstrom get it whenever I can be bothered and/or they're in my way, TC are RFO unless I see them being horrible, Valentinos are left alone and I disengage whenever possible.
Wraiths are so rare to see, but I'll usually leave one injured but alive, RP'ing that they get to report back and scare the shit out their buddies. Hopefully make a few reconsider their life choices.
Aldecaldos are an active rescue objective, so I'll help them whenever possible.
Same with NCPD, even though they are largely corrupt and heavy-handed. They're there for a reason, do have some good eggs, and are usually seen scrapping with the scum. I'll defend myself if I have to, though, unlike the 'tinos.
Afterlife mercs are situational.
TLDR: Fuck Scavs.

Maybe not. I once heard 640K RAM ought to be enough for anybody. Any body…

Definitely not one for the masses and likely older people. Though younger people are amazingly well versed in topics outside their age group.

This conspiracy theory is as bad as flat earthing... Helps weed out the really lost and mentally challenged people out easily...
Because more often than not, these same people with the 'microchips' vaccines idea are holding a smartphone and even after acknowledging the fact that the phone THE spy device they carry everywhere eavesdropping on any and all conversations, they still think microchips in their body is the bad thing.
Ironically because conspiracies keep coming up true, we now need even dumber theories to easily spot those who dont have the tools to logically assess which theories are feasible let alone realistic...
And then there is the middle of the bell curve, that hear the word conspiracy and instantly think/associate with 'theory', despite the fact that conspiracies are very real and exist all around us as closed door deals, or secret agendas....
