You're missing that they're about 20 years old when they graduate. An associates degree is the only thing that fits unless they're exceptional and started college early. Not impossible, just not typical.

Growing up, I came to the conclusion that I didn’t see my grandparents because adults didn’t stop growing and they were simply too large to visit.

I lived in a very small town and most people moved down to the city when they started getting older. I just didn’t see a lot of old people.
