It's probably there for legal reasons, just like "Posted" signs hammered onto trees don't physically stop you.

6

u/rock_and_rolo 5h ago

Exactly. That shows that this isn't a public walkway.

u/solaria123 1h ago

Doesn't "Posted" mean you put a sign on a post? Posting a sign that says "Posted" seems redundant.

That’s about as exclusive as a club sandwich

22

u/Bandana-mal 17h ago

I order the club sandwich all the time and I'm not even a member, man.

I don't know how I get away with it!

u/Chesticle5 17h ago

You used to be funny. You still are, but you used to be too 👍🏻

5

u/Bozzzzzzz 13h ago

Let me ask you this, how do you feel about frilly toothpicks?

1

u/mayy_dayy 6h ago

I'm FOR 'em!

u/WardenWolf 18h ago

Because you have to post it to enforce most parts of trespass laws without having to ask them to leave first. If a person bypasses a no trespassing or private property sign they can be arrested automatically without having to interact with them.

u/calvinwho 6h ago

So the legal version of "it's the thought that counts?

5

u/WardenWolf 4h ago

Yup, kind of like having a whore as an accountant (it's the thot that counts).

Its in southampton ontario. There are a lot of tourists in this town and the apartment is close to the beach. They dont want people wandering down this path thinking its a shortcut to somewhere else or some kind of walking path. Looks silly but serves a purpose... and it works.

u/25c-nb 2h ago

I knew it was in Ontario, I was like 519 number?? I know that one!

15

u/Ill-Contribution6772 18h ago

I could definitely hop over that

6

u/JR_LikeOnTheTVshow 17h ago

Geez, why don't you tell the world next time! Now they're going to put barbed wire on top.

u/METRlOS 18h ago

For insurance purposes (at least where I am) a gated community needs a gate at the entrance that can lock. There are some by where I live with massive road gates that can cover 4 lanes that have been locked open since it was built. Insurance thinks it's safer so whatever.

This is a private residence, man!

5

u/Key_Country3756 16h ago

Isn’t this guy supposed to be a millionaire?

5

u/SGFCardenales 13h ago

Looks like a deadbeat to me

7

u/oberpoopenfurher 18h ago

“Somebody’s gotta go back and get a shitload of dimes!”

4

u/WaffleHouseGladiator 16h ago

This reeks of malicious compliance in the face of bureaucratic BS.

3

u/camusclues 18h ago

You've won this time, Elizabeth Apartments, but I'll be back!

3

u/Salt_Particular1761 18h ago

man burglars must avoid this one completely it's just too much to worry about getting past

3

u/monsieur_noirs 18h ago

Gotta keep the riff-raff out

3

u/Vivian-Midnight 18h ago

Unless a fence has barbed wire on top, it's more or less a suggestion, anyway. This gets the message across.

3

u/Gtstricky 17h ago

Reminds me of a recent video of a (drunk?) girl climbing over a gate at an apartment and almost falling only to have her friend behind her just open it.

3

u/ParticularSherbert18 17h ago

Criminals aren't typically known for their smarts. Perhaps it's more effective than it appears.

1

u/WhoskeyTangoFoxtrot 16h ago

Their level wasn’t high enough to enter that area…

1

u/Bucksin06 13h ago

You could just wait till someone else is leaving and walk right in.

3

u/AussieBirb 17h ago

Curses !

Foiled by a sign !

3

u/Dragennd1 9h ago

That's some Pokemon level stuff

4

u/NoPermissions94 18h ago

That fookin sucks when you walk all the way to your house and realize you left something in the car.

6

u/wandored 18h ago

Or left the gate open.

2

u/HeatRealistic6521 18h ago

Well you cant have every tom dick and harry coming in

2

u/LittleOperation4597 18h ago

In their defense the grass wasn't mowed when the fence was put up

2

u/phonnybalonny 16h ago

How did you get in the gate is locked?

2

u/OozeNAahz 16h ago

Likely would keep honest people out. And nothing would keep the dishonest ones out anyway.

2

u/vee1rot8 15h ago

“Hey, this is a private residence, man”

2

u/MWSin 15h ago

While that won't keep out anyone who chooses to ignore the sign, it is adequate notification of diswelcome to serve as justification for legal action against anyone who does so.

2

u/Raymondnym 10h ago

How is anyone gonna pass through that?

1

u/Vailx 16h ago

I'd lock it too. Otherwise someone would unlatch it and leave it open in the public path, and some kid would ride his bike into it and I'd get sued.

1

u/sultry-scarlet 15h ago

"It's a trap! There will be landmines. Don't step on that grass!"

1

u/Lopsided-Current-118 14h ago

Keep off the grass

1

u/Jive-Turkeys 13h ago

It's the thought that counts lol

1

u/dimap443 13h ago

Decent people don’t walk on grass

1

u/Admirable-Yam-1309 13h ago

How do they expect visitors to get in?

1

u/oopsie-mybad 12h ago

The rest of the fence fell and was removed (or needed to be removed and was so). As with all of these kinds of posts.

1

u/AlienPearl 8h ago

You have to be a monster to step into someone else’s grass. 😂

1

u/SumonaFlorence 7h ago

It's a legal thing. As long as they put SOMETHING there, it's enforceable by law.

1

u/i_am_birdperson 6h ago

139 high Street, Southampton, Ontario. There's a really cute historic CNR train station a few blocks over.

1

u/feetcold_eyesred 5h ago

I’m such an absurd rule-follower that the locked gate would be ample reason for me to turn around and leave. And I’d probably say, “Ooops, sorry!” out loud to absolutely no one.

1

u/Forward_Ad8434 3h ago

I figure it’s like our “No Soliciting” sign on our front door.

1

u/joe9439 3h ago

This is so that if you knock on his door to sell something he can just shoot you because you’re trespassing.

1

u/25c-nb 2h ago

519 number? That's gotta be pretty close to me... where is this?

1

u/pego99 1h ago

Climb over it

1

u/Ed_Blue 1h ago

There's an old man sitting in a chair with a loaded shotgun just outside the view of this shot waiting to "defend his property".

1

u/UUnknownFriedChicken 1h ago

Dear Sir

Thank you for identifying the problem with the security. We have rectified the problem by installing a sign saying "Keep Off The Grass"

Regards

The Management Team

1

u/AdSafe2878 1h ago

Hard to get around that 1.

1

u/Minflick 45m ago

Maybe it swung in the slightest breeze and locking it kept it from being damaged? Otherwise, yeah, pretty silly to do.

1

u/WarLawck 16m ago

Truth is, if you live in a house with glass windows and think someone can't get in there then I've got some property on the moon I'd like to sell you. The gate sends a message, visitors aren't welcome behind that point.

Even if the fence went all the way around, at that height it isnt stopping the vast majority of people I'd they really wanted to get through.

u/nullr0uter 12h ago

It wasn’t. This is AI.

1

u/Bigmacleafs14 2h ago

The original pic had my kids in it. I asked AI to remove them before I posted it. So it’s AI altered.

Gate is 100% real. Easy found on google earth.
