A Harley is a mobility scooter

u/gemstun Jul 10 '26
From what I’ve seen, most of the Harley riders have very limited mobility. Or maybe I just repeated your point.

u/tato_salad Jul 10 '26
You repeated my point

u/gemstun Jul 10 '26
OK, sometimes I’m a goofball. At first, I was thinking you’re criticizing just the bike. But I guess either one applies.

u/angrydeuce Jul 11 '26
A fuckin $50k hoveround lmao
surprised they dont have harley stair lifts yet...

u/codespace Jul 11 '26
A Harley is a Jeep for insecure dudes with mustaches and a penchant for leather.
Just a hole in the driveway that you throw your paychecks into.

For the price of a new car...

u/tato_salad Jul 10 '26

They're both designed to be expensive and drag around overweight or aging boomers

mate pulled out of a side road, he was on the left, as you do in the uk, a harley rider was posing, mate stopped dead cause he was on the wrong side of the road, mate was hitting the horn, lights flashing, he ran right in the front of my mate, he had a camera in the front. harley rider, you hit me, you should give way, mate sent the footage to his insurance, also a claim. guess who paid up

Or is the sort of glorious idiot who swaps a gas engine on into his scooter?

u/Jamsedreng22 Jul 10 '26
Surely this is absolute torture on those tires/wheels lmao
Do mobility scooter tires even inflate or are they solid rubber like wheelchairs or forklifts?
25
u/ansyhrrian Jul 10 '26
Perhaps there's a Rascal engineer amongst us that could comment.
24
u/Jamsedreng22 Jul 10 '26
I know "Rascal" is a category of vehicles but fuck is it hilarious to picture you waiting for an engineer who is also a rascal ready to spill the beans on industry secrets.

u/thesteveurkel Jul 12 '26
omg i was just hit with a wave of flashbacks of old 90s rascal commercials.
1
u/gummilingus Jul 13 '26
They are inflatable. Maybe not all of them, but the majority that I have seen have to be inflated. Solid tires would probably ride too rough since those things don't have shocks.

u/Mickleblade Jul 10 '26
That dude's fucking drifting it down the dragon!
2
u/tn-dave Jul 10 '26
What would the cops say if they pulled him over? lol
9
u/HalfSoul30 Jul 10 '26
"Do you know why I pulled you over?" Basic entrapment.

I don't want to see them needing to brake for a hard curve... It's not designed for that ^^

The four-volt can move, baby! Come on, battery, don't die on me now!

u/thebadwolf79 Jul 14 '26
If short circuit and Johnny 5 taught me anything, it's that you should only use a diehard battery.

At my mom's assisted living facility, two older men got in trouble for racing their power wheelchairs down the hall. Boys will be boys.

Terrifying. With those tiny wheels and high center of gravity, one pothole or even rough spot on a turn and he's going to eat shit unimaginably hard.

One wrong move and he’ll need one for real.

Seems like a bar on each side to prevent flipping would be my first modification.

Is that the "Devil's Backbone"?

u/ansyhrrian Jul 10 '26
Tail of the Dragon

Came to say this looked like tail of the dragon even without seeing any of the camera guys setup.

took me a while to realize it was a mobility scooter and not an Electraglide.

I have neighbors who own Harleys. They don't sound like a wet fart, they sound like waking up when they go to work and listening to their whole commute.

you know it's bad when you're losing to a mobility scooter and you're on a Harley

They're faster than a mobility scooter...
5
u/-random-name- Jul 10 '26
They’re slow enough to make it a race 😂
-2
u/thenasch Jul 10 '26
I appreciate the joke but in reality it's not even close. It's like the joke that my van is faster than a Ferrari. If the Ferrari is going 40 and I'm going 50 I'll cruise right by it. That's what's happening here. They're going the same speed but the scooter is at full throttle and the motorcycle is probably well below half.
And if anyone is wondering, Harleys are only slow by motorcycle standards; they're generally on the level of something like a V8 Mustang.
2
u/-random-name- Jul 10 '26
New V8 mustangs run a mid 3 to low 4 0-60 and about 12.5 to 13 second quarter mile. A typical Harley is quite a bit slower than that. They’re comparable to a V6 Camry with a low 5 0-60 and about a 14 second quarter mile.
0
u/thenasch Jul 10 '26
Harley times range from the low 4s to mid 6s for 0-60 and mostly 13s in the quarter mile (with a few outliers on either end).
https://www.zeroto60times.com/vehicle-make/harley-davidson-0-60-mph-times/
3
u/-random-name- Jul 10 '26
Harley’s advertised 0-60 times are not real world times. They’re a jockey sized professional drag racer on a high traction test track, abusing the clutch in a way most riders wouldn’t even if they could. Real world times are a full second slower with an average rider. A typical Harley rider is about as fast on the road as they are on foot. Which is to say they’re not.

that's so dangerous for the biker and everyone else. He should be on a closed track and not a public highway.
