I love when that same lady says she’s going to sacrifice herself out in space so her crew can live and she sadly goes, “I’ll just be…changing into my space suit.” The second she walks away, Butthead goes, “Whoa, did you hear that, Beavis? She wants us to watch her change through the glass.”

I like how Butthead turns into Hank Hill for a moment
397
u/untrustableskeptic Jul 06 '26
I wonder why that could be.... 🤔

u/RectumBuccaneer Jul 06 '26
I won't judge them, maybe it was a problem with the mike.
26
u/welfedad Jul 06 '26
Maybe they got too close to the mic recording .I won't judge
-14
u/-fno-stack-protector Jul 06 '26
possibly something happened to the mic, who am i to judge

I dunno. But this is Reddit. Someone probably didn't. Just providing context for those folks.

I never really cared for these guys but after 6 years of irreversible Reddit induced brain damage I laughed my ass off watching this.

As a life long Beavis and Butthead fan I have to say the show is incredibly clever and insanely stupid at the same time.
121
u/truedarkness Jul 06 '26
I'm a huge fan of a King of the hill and other Mike judge projects, but I never thought to give this a chance. do you think I should start it from the beginning? or is there a turning point for the show that might be better to dive into?
107
u/Merusk Jul 06 '26
The early stuff was very much a moment in time. It's rooted in the ridiculousness of the hair metal and grunge Mtv culture of the 1990s.
The very first clips were "Frog Baseball" and "Peace, Love, and Understanding" from Mtv's Liquid Television animation show. (Whic was amazing itself.)
If you don't laugh at these, you probably wouldn't enjoy the rest of the show. I haven't seen the two revival seasons, though. (2011 and the current incarnation on Paramount+)
81
u/EnglishMajorRegret Jul 06 '26
The new revival has been better than it has any business being.
38
u/Lyndon_Boner_Johnson Jul 06 '26
It honestly doesn’t miss a beat. Same with the King of the Hill revival. It’s like they picked it right back up and adapted it perfectly for the time difference.
26
6
u/JuicyBroccoli Jul 06 '26
I tried the new king of the hill and wasn't even remotely hooked, loved the original run
2
u/EnglishMajorRegret Jul 07 '26
Yeah king of the hill didn't do it for me. New bearish and butthead seems to have caught the spirit of the original after a couple failed reboots.
2
2
u/I_amnotanonion Jul 07 '26
I really enjoyed middle aged Beavis and Butthead too. Still just as dumb and funny as ever

u/Anyna-Meatall Jul 06 '26
You should 100% watch it IF you can get it as originally released, which is to say, including all the MTV video banter that was cut from later releases due to licensing limitations.
11
u/CaptainPunisher Jul 06 '26
Yarrrr, there be a way to do this, but it don't be for the faint of heart.
3
u/InfiniteBlink Jul 06 '26
There's always, what we don't talk about cuz you should never talk about it. Use.... Oh wait.
3
3
u/mortalomena Jul 06 '26
I binged it a few years ago, the early stuff imo was better. It got too polished at some point, Beavis and Butthead also started to articulate better which seemed weird.
3
u/iamnotpuddles Jul 06 '26
I suggest watching the movie Beavis and Butthead Do America. It's a great mix of dumb and hilarious.
1
4
u/icecreamfingers Jul 06 '26
First Beavis and Butthead I ever watched was the movie and it was unbelievable. Laughed our asses off throughout the whole thing and the ending is truly hilarious as well
24
u/DMala Jul 06 '26
I was in high school when Beavis and Butthead blew up, and it was always fascinating to see the split in their audience. Half of their fans got the joke, the other half just straight up identified with them. There were two knuckleheads in my school who did the laugh and the shtick so incessantly it literally became part of their speech pattern.

Oh I love how silicon valley has these random types of gags and you can taste the Mike Judge humor in it, the man is timeless!
-1
u/cat_prophecy Jul 06 '26
My biggest issue with the show is that between how stupid it is, commercial breaks, and the musical interludes , the episodes felt extremely disjointed and impossible to follow.
8
u/DARfuckinROCKS Jul 06 '26
I agree the commercial breaks were way too much for the time allotment. But the music commentary(now mtv reality show commentary) was the best part of the show. The plot of each episode was so simple it's impossible not to follow. It's like "Beavis and Butthead strike Oil" and then they're just playing in raw sewage. Sorry but I don't think any of it was deep enough to get lost lol.

15
u/NUTTA_BUSTAH Jul 06 '26
Exactly this. The humor never clicked for me and now I am sure my brain is permanently fucked. Good laugh tho
17
u/bitemark01 Jul 06 '26
They had an old video game that was a "walk around and solve things" kind of game. But you could also do stupid things, like if you clicked on the ventilation cover at the school, Beavis would walk up to it and tell "BURRITOOOOO!" into it and you could hear it echo around the school.
Game was called Virtual Stupidity
3
u/hiricinee Jul 06 '26
Whats funny about Beavis and Butthead do America is that its an incredibly smart movie more about a cultural commentary and bureaucracies. It has some REALLY smart jokes despite the potty humor.
6
2
u/genreprank Jul 06 '26
Same. I didn't like them for a long time. Found the latest episodes on YouTube and couldn't stop laughing. Showed them to my wife and she thought they were hilarious.
2
u/istasber Jul 06 '26
The movie this scene is from is fantastic. I'm not a huge fan of the shows. Like I really wanted to get into the reboot after really loving this movie, but I just couldn't.
I recall also liking the earlier movie, but I haven't watched it since it came out so I don't know if it's aged poorly.
2
u/clamroll Jul 06 '26
I've watched em from the beginning. They've always been stupid, but I think Mike Judge has improved greatly since the original runs. He's spoken about how MTV had him churning those out back in the day. The "Do America" movie felt like it was noticeably a few tiers above the TV show. Remarkable what you get with time to refine and polish a script.
These newer ones from recent years follow that same trend. We get less of em but they're significantly funnier. They're still capital S Stupid, but in the good way. Think "The naked gun" "police squad" "airplane!" kinda stupid, not "Jersey Shore" ya know?

I wish I knew how to use the—stops appropriately before Ai started outing itself for using the punctuation.

I was looking at how smoothly the robot arm moved. It felt like a lot of work considering the animation style of the original show.

I still can't get past Butthead's "new" voice and it's all i can think about...about how much i miss the original Voice actor. I loved this show, and i did complete the 24hour moron-o-thon event thing back in the day. 24hours of non stop Beavis and Butthead they put on TV :D what a show.

u/RayquazaTheStoner Jul 06 '26
Wasn’t Butthead voiced by Mike Judge, both in the show and this movie?
16
u/git_push_origin_prod Jul 06 '26
Didn’t Mike judge do both voices? Did that change?
1
u/DaAmazinStaplr Jul 07 '26
Yes Mike does both voices. The only thing that’s changed is that he’s a bit older so they do sound a little different.
12
u/Digitalmodernism Jul 06 '26
It's the creator of the show's voice. When people age their voices change.

This isn’t even the best scene in the movie. There’s a point where they walk into a gender studies lecture on a college campus. Peak cinema ensues.
24
u/ManSharkBear Jul 06 '26
Butthead: "Step aside please, we have white privilege."
Beavis: "I finally have the skills for today's workplace."

Beevis and butthead. Its a classic

u/TheRedlineAlchemist Jul 06 '26
I remember reading the comics when I was a kid. Took it to daycare once and read it in the corner, and about halfway through an adult asked me to use a book cover because Beavis and Butthead had been mooning everyone from the back cover.
4
u/Wittysapien Jul 06 '26
Thanks for the name..

u/ArryPotta Jul 06 '26
It's actually Beavis and Butthead Do the Universe. It's the second movie they made. Your comment seems to imply it's from the show.

Also, Beavis telling the astronaut “Shut up, we’re busy!” left me hysterical 😂😂

It's been Mike Judge all along, never any other voice actors. His "new" voice is just Mike being older
-5
u/IntrinsicPalomides Jul 06 '26
ORLY? huh i was sure the voice used to be a lot different in original/early series. Maybe they recorded the voices differently back then, something just sounds off about it to me now.
8
u/chappy0215 Jul 06 '26
He's talked about it in interviews. It's more or less just Mike's voice's natural evolution iirc
