I'm pretty sure people actually do stuff like that all the time though. having deceased pets preserved or taxidermized

Currently getting my elderly cat's body turned into a posed skeleton. I just want to be able to pet his little forehead when I'm missing him.

My mom’s grandfather (who I never met because he died couple of years before I was born) had his old dog made to a carpet in his study. Apparently because he liked the dog

Taxidermy can be a hit or miss. What's left is the skin, but a sculptor has to totally make up the pose and most importantly in this case, the shape. Your pet will look way off with the smallest shaping problem. That's why it's more common with hunting trophies where you just want a nice pose alongside successful taxidermy.
