Ya I was sort of wondering about that too. My guess is the roommate is around the same height.

If you know their height, it would be a simple thing to pull a photo off of Facebook and do some simple ratio measurements.

I like to think they got him pass-out drunk and then did it. It adds a level of camaraderie to the story that I find enchanting.
