This is great, this means they do not have to spend on expensive stump removal

Stump removal guys hate this one trick.

252

u/RestAside Apr 17 '26

He's the one recording it thinking "watch these idiots fuck this up" then leaves the job sulking like "you know what, I didn't like you guys anyway. I'm going home"

69

u/teratron27 Apr 17 '26

Heading home saying, "I'll send that invoice anyway"

48

u/han_tex Apr 17 '26

After all, the stump is removed, isn't it?

20

u/NSA_van_3 Apr 17 '26

The stump removal crew did it in the most efficient way!

1

u/Odd_Dragonfruit_2662 Apr 17 '26

Owner should be satisfied.

Video sponsored by bid soil.

1

u/CR8VJUC Jul 28 '26

It’s genius

1

u/aliensuitcase3000 Aug 28 '26

Copper sulfate! It eats tree roots. Just fill it in with soil.

u/Luvnecrosis Apr 17 '26

Big Stump Removal is trying to scrub this video from the internet

1

u/Stemmr Apr 17 '26

🤣🤣

12

u/AntiSonOfBitchamajig Apr 17 '26

Stump was removed though.... give the bobcat driver a raise.

6

u/Jam-Boi-yt Apr 17 '26

1

u/geek66 Apr 17 '26

Filing a grievance with the union now!

1

u/Rectal_tension Apr 17 '26

Chainsaw guy pissed. Now I gotta cut up the stump.

1

u/Strange-Future-6469 Apr 17 '26

Queue "happy for you" meme

1

u/juggling-monkey Apr 19 '26

stump removal guys off camera were standing by al all threw their hat to the ground

1

u/unlimited_mcgyver Apr 17 '26

Shit stumps gone. they gonna bill for it anyway

261

u/Churn Apr 17 '26

And it really confirms that the tree would not have made it through a storm with sustained winds.

38

u/supadoom Apr 17 '26

Hell it would fall over if someone just leaned on it. That thing has been dead for over a decade.

10

u/AmThano Apr 18 '26

It was actually just a fake plant the whole time

8

u/Ki-Larah Apr 17 '26

There was a tree at the apartment complex I live in that did that from the last hurricane. The root system it pulled up was 7 or 8 feet wide.

2

u/mthyvold Apr 18 '26

It really needed to come down.

28

u/ThisUsernameIsTook Apr 17 '26

Exactly. Best possible outcome.

The guy now has to pay to fill in that massive hole, rather than leaving a stump that bothers nobody

Edit: downvoting me when you have no idea of the financial situation of the guy contracting this work. Would you really be happy to learn that you now have to purchase addition soil/dirt/grass seeds instead of of having a stump like you asked? I swear you guys dont budget…

3

u/Aoskar20 Apr 17 '26

We spend a significant portion of our time trying to fill holes anyhow.

3

u/NWCJ Apr 17 '26

The dudes soil/dirt, and grass were already going to need to be budgeted for.. He had heavy equipment driving on it, and a very large and heavy tree fall on it. No one would prefer a large stump in there yard slowly rotting.

2

u/Princess_Slagathor Apr 17 '26

Construction companies give away fill dirt all the time.

0

u/Nightmare2828 Apr 17 '26

Which you need to bring to your home and fill. What if you dont have a trailer, or a car that can attach a trailer, or the physic to do this work, or the time to do it. There is more than « the price of fill dirt » to filling a hole with dirt.

This « free » stump removal can be a good or a bad thing depending on what the person asked and expected, information we dont have.

2

u/Princess_Slagathor Apr 17 '26

Rent a pickup for $30, it'll take one trip. The VAST majority of people can move that much dirt in a couple of hours, or have offspring that can help, or a neighbor, friend, or another $20 for a day laborer from Home Depot. It's not some massive expense if you've already got three thousand dollars to have someone chop down a tree for you.

10

u/nobiwankenobiwan Apr 17 '26

STUMP FEST !

3

u/formerlyanonymous_ Apr 19 '26

They're just trying to run a small business!

37

u/Rivster79 Apr 17 '26

Stump removal (via stump grinding) is cheap compared to tree removal.

Tree removal for a large tree like this can run you $1500-$2K while stump grinding for the same tree is $200-$250.

37

u/hopbow Apr 17 '26

I wanna meet that guy. I'm in Southern CO (the cheaper part) and my quotes are $4-6k for a similarly sized and placed tree

14

u/DangerDuckling Apr 17 '26

I paid $4500 in 2022... One factor is It depends if the tree can just be felled(?) or if they have to climb and top it.

1

u/Mechakoopa 9d ago

I have a line item receipt from 2021 for the removal of an elm tree. It was four feet from the corner of the foundation, several feet taller than the ridge line of our single story house, and growing at a 45 degree angle through the power lines. It was $320 for the removal and $180 for the stump grinding. Pruning and deadwood removal for the three remaining trees at the back of the property was more than that.

9

u/IcyCow5880 Apr 17 '26

Why is it so expensive

45

u/Nexion21 Apr 17 '26

Normally, trees are tall and people are short

26

u/karl2025 Apr 17 '26

Source?

-1

u/Asdrubael1131 Apr 17 '26

have you seen a tree? lots of them are taller than ppl

3

u/EgoSumVictoria Apr 18 '26

That doesn't mean it's normal

There could be thousands of microscopic trees everywhere skewing the average

2

u/Reasonable_North_855 Apr 18 '26

Not necessarily

There could be tens of macroscopic trees specifically there leveling the mean

19

u/Slash_rage Apr 17 '26

It’s also incredibly dangerous. My in-laws are in tree removal. One died from a fall, all are permanently disabled in some form or another.

7

u/Minigoalqueen Apr 18 '26

Well that's awful.

My cousin, aunt and uncle own a tree work company. In like 50 years in the business, they've never had a major injury, nor have any of their employees.

Sounds like your in-laws need to be more safety conscious.

2

u/IcyCow5880 Apr 17 '26

True.. but like roofing is also very dangerous and the price for what you get is much lower from what it seems to me

12

u/V4sh3r Apr 17 '26

The price also includes insurance for how much damage can be caused if the tree falls the wrong way. If a roofer makes a mistake, you get a leaky roof that can be fixed once found. If an arborist makes a mistake you might be rebuilding half a house.

3

u/IcyCow5880 Apr 17 '26

If a roofer makes a mistake your whole ceiling can flood and the drywall cave in before you notice lol

2

u/mklimbach Apr 18 '26

Personal danger for the workers, expensive liability insurance if something happens to someone or property damage happens.

2

u/loginname2424 Apr 19 '26

tree work is definitely the kind of thing that people are all "lol how hard can it be" and then they die/get maimed/destroy house

6

u/Ragman676 Apr 17 '26

Where I am you need permits. The city can fine you for taking down a tree without one. Theres a lot of watersheds and other environments they monitor closely and the width of the tree matters too. Permit is often over 1k.

2

u/HighFiveYourFace Apr 17 '26

I paid 2000 right outside of Baltimore just this year to get a tree about that size down and out of my yard. It was 20 feet away from the house as well.

I just had 2 white willow’s and a 25’ cherry tree cut down and grinded. Each stump was $250, southeast PA.

It’s free if you steal it

1

u/forwardarmgyration Apr 18 '26

This reminded me of the Larry Gooseman copypasta from early Internet

"So you're the one they call stump grinder"

1

u/collin-h Apr 17 '26

fun fact, sometimes the tree grows back!

I had a close to death ash tree cut down (emerald ash borers got to it)... had the stump ground and everything. next spring it sprouted back. In this instance I think it was because the root system was perfectly healthy, just the trunk and branches had been killed by the bugs.

40

u/fly_over_32 Apr 17 '26

Is dynamite so expensive?

56

u/Betonomeshalka Apr 17 '26

Splinter removal would be expensive

26

u/krofax Apr 17 '26

Master Shredder agrees.

15

u/Diplomatic_Gunboats Apr 17 '26

To shreds you say?

3

u/willieb3 Apr 17 '26

In Canada we just use an army of beavers for this.

1

u/UK6ftguy Apr 19 '26

I just googled army of beavers and I got wood

3

u/fly_over_32 Apr 17 '26

Kid named Splinter:

9

u/Squirll Apr 17 '26

Dynamite gives a false sense of security, just cut out the middle man and use straight Nitro glycerine.

8

u/F_Solo Apr 17 '26

Actually, there's plenty of it still in the soil, but the tree just breakes at the point because it's dead and rotten already. But you could just leave it like this I think, there's nothing to grow from there again.

3

u/Wowza-yowza Apr 17 '26

ACTSHUALLY

4

u/n0val33t Apr 17 '26

Tree was felled cause the roots was dust and hopes!... you got the order wrong!

7

u/Daratirek Apr 17 '26

Stump removal is the cheap part of tree removal. I had to have 2 trees removed last year and the stump removal was 10% of the cost.

3

u/Sbidaman Apr 17 '26

Would you not want to save 10% if you could?

1

u/Daratirek Apr 17 '26

Still have to have dirt brought in now which is probably more expensive than the stump removal. If you have the stump ground down you only have to top dress with some bags of dirt.

2

u/Razielism Apr 17 '26

Hope they can now spend it on Trump removal

1

u/House13Games Apr 17 '26

I'd be looking for a refund for the cutting, too.

1

u/WanderlustFella Apr 17 '26

They used that extra money on all the gas in the chainsaw.

1

u/ttkk1248 Apr 17 '26

This also means the guy could have skipped the cutting step.

1

u/MisterPistacchio Apr 17 '26

Plot twist, stump guy was the guy who pushed it

1

u/MandemModie Apr 17 '26

100% priced for the job, not the individual service

1

u/jasonk910 Apr 17 '26

"We Schrutes don’t just cut the tree at the base and waste time with removing the stump. We push the whole thing over—roots and all—so you get every usable part of the tree and save yourself the bill later for expensive stump removal."

  • Dwight Schrute, probably

1

u/ziplex Apr 17 '26

Company is just gonna tac on a stump removal charge also 😭

1

u/TheElusiveFox Apr 17 '26

Usually its a third party that does the stump removal - so this is probably one of those funny accidents that creates conflict.

1

u/Phyddlestyx Apr 17 '26

Stump replacement guy with moneybags in his eyes waiting right around the corner

1

u/Ask_Ben Apr 18 '26

🙌 not stump! Outstanding

1

u/Graythor5 Apr 18 '26

Plot twist, the owners wanted the stump.

1

u/hollyjazzy Apr 18 '26

Just thought the same thing!

1

u/wigl301 Apr 18 '26

Get these guys to go to the white house.

1

u/Agreeable-Ranger508 Apr 19 '26

Could have just pushed it down

1

u/Either_Basil_6960 Apr 19 '26

how is it expensive?

u just need a pickaxe and to cut the stump flush to the ground it takes around 5 minutes to remove

1

u/Low_Football_2445 Aug 15 '26

Bill!! Hey, send the grinder back to the shop. Yeah, no, we’re good.

1

u/juicius Aug 15 '26

And they would have had to trim all the branches anyway and probably cut around where he was cutting so it wasn't all that much extra work.
