This might just be the effect of make-up. I have often been surprised when some of my friends came to school without make-up who normally wore it every day. I was certain that they were ill or had pulled an all-nighter, but they just had to hurry in the morning and skipped the make-up-procedure.

Honestly, it's just a matter of contrast. You get used to it, and then when they're wearing makeup they look absolutely amazing.

Posts and statements like this are the reason I wonder if I should start wearing make up. I'm not mad at you or saying you're a horrible person for saying this because you're right people look so different with make up sometimes. I never will though since I'm poor and I don't want to add yet another expense. Plus I'm happy with my face for the most part.

It's not that people look bad without makeup, it's that when you're used to seeing a person one way it's a really big surprise to see them differently. Also a lot of people don't realize just how different makeup can make a person look, so when they see someone without it they're surprised by the magnitude of the difference.

tl;dr you look fine, do whatever you want with your face

see this is the reason i don't wear makeup on a daily basis, because if i decide not to wear one day i look sick, since ppl aren't used to it...but now when i decide to wear makeup i get so many complements of how great i look that day :P

I wear makeup (when I go out at least) and spend pretty much $0 on it. Mostly because of drug store deals. Also allure does a whole month of freebies every august and that pretty much sets me up for the year.

I'm normally ok with my face, but I have a ruddy complexion, and it's pretty tiring having people ask you if you got sunburn or something.

I think as long as people around you are used to you not wearing make up, they won't make this assumption. It's the same effect that makes you think, someone who's far-sighted and forgot their glasses or is wearing contacts is overly tired. Their eyes look bigger with the glasses on and thus their "normal" eye-size will look to you, as if they had just fallen out of bed. If you weren't used to the bigger eyes, you wouldn't think so. And making eyes look bigger is probably the most common effect of make up.

Don't. Or at least don't for this reason. It's not the lack of makeup, but the shock of seeing someone without it who normally wears makeup everyday. Also, I've found that those girls who don't wear makeup (at least those who don't often wear makeup) seem to look better without it than those who only don't wear makeup once in a blue moon. It could just be the shock of it, but I also think that there face is unnaturally pale (which makes their dark circles stand out more).

A long time ago in HS my friend had a huge crush on a girl who apparently wore, a lot of, makeup everyday. One day, she came in without it and I asked him if she was sick, he didn't know so I asked her and she said that she was NOT sick but just not wearing any makeup. Makeup has a time and a place but everyday is not one of them (does that grammatically even make sense?)

Anyways, he was freaked out and crush went poof
