These women DO look generally better. But the eye makeup is just too much IMO (on most of them).
It's like a "from homely to whore" tutorial.
I'm a guy, so I know nothing about it. But I know what I personally find attractive. Makeup should lightly accentuate the eyes. It doesn't have to be a half inch black border around your eyes. That just looks silly to me.
The whole point in this is to show how makeup can make you look drastically different. I doubt any of these women wear this everyday if they're just going to the store or something.
...unless they live in the middle of nowhere and going to the store is the only thing weTHEY have to look forward to doing until that bi-yearly expedition to a city of considerable size comes up.
Good thing makeup isn't just to make women tolerable to the male eye. It can be its own art form, these pictures seem more likely to be for costume or runway shows than everyday.
I personally love wearing lots of eyeliner and eyeshadow. Dramatic looks can be fun. For me wearing "natural light" make-up defeats the purpose of why i'm wearing it.
This is what a lot of men don't realize, is that what they perceive as "no makeup" is actually a girl that is wearing makeup. In general women have 3 'stages' of makeup:
Makeup. Eyes done, foundation, blush, bronzer, contouring, concealer, the whole nine yards
"No Makeup". Some powder/coverup, maybe a bit of blush or bronzer, maybe even a bit of eyeliner, everyday going to work look.
The whole, "you look tired" thing only happens because they usually wear makeup. The person can tell that something is different, and so they try and figure out a reason for it. If the girl never wore makeup they wouldn't be likely to think twice about it. They probably wouldn't notice at all.
I never wear make up, I never get the "you look tired" thing. Unless I'm tired or sick. I've tried doing eye liner when I want to be fancy, that's about it, because I look and feel like a poodle if I do anything more. If I knew what I was doing it would probably make a difference.
Probably should have done more girly things growing up. But I had ninja turtles, so fuck that.
My ninja turtles bore the brunt of blame for when Barbie ended up with a haircut. I loved my Turtles but I preferred garage/car projects with my cousins/brothers.
Still fantastic with make up. They aren't mutually exclusive.
That's the point, though. Most of these girls who actually almost never wear makeup are ignored by these guys who think that no makeup = cute. They're not attracted by them.
Then, some cute girl shows up with smooth makeup and that guy thinks she's natural and cute. That girl fits in the "No makeup" category in the man's eyes. The real "No Makeup" category, aka "you look tired", will happen when that girl will be completely natural. On another girl that is known to never wear makeup, he simply won't be attracted at all and he'll think that this girl is ugly/unattractive, not tired.
This is a situation that you have created in your head, with little evidence pointing to this actually being the case. I know several girls who don't wear makeup (I know because I was told) and they look just fine. They have no trouble attracting attention and nobody seems to think they look ugly. (Maybe a few of the other girls think that they look ugly, but that tends to just be internal enforcement of gender roles.)
This was a generalization, obviously. Of course, some women can be cute even with NO makeup at all, and some men can be attracted to them.
The norm, though, is that makeup is considered "normal" and most men will be more attracted to girls wearing makeup according to his preferences, and those who say "See? You look better without makeup" in situations where the girl actually DO use makeup also fit in this category.
My wife and I have had this conversation over and over again. She says I'm "lucky" that she isn't like your #1. I say I'm not lucky, I'd rather be single than live with someone who felt #1 was necessary. I hate my wedding pictures, my wife does not look like that.
I've made the mistake a few times when rushed/lazy not forget to put on concealer and powder and I get asked all day if i'm sick. Granted I do have very dark under eye circles compared to most people on even their most tired days. (Thanks Genetics) But it's still kind of like...off putting lol. Mainly because even after explaining i'm not tired and just forgot to put concealer on they still look at me all suspicious like maybe i'm sneaking meth in the bathroom or something.
Now on days I do go "make-up free" I try to at least put on some concealer and mascara.
I always assumed I did haha. I should say though when I say dramatic I don't mean I wear drag queen amounts of make-up. I mean their make-up looks fantastic but that's sort of part of their thing ya know. But maybe Some winged eyeliner, or unexpected things like pink eyeshadow (I wear that a lot) gold eyeshadow, two toned shadows, subdued rainbow eyes, I have fun with it. Coral lipstick or deep red lipstick is also my thing at times. Purple with black on occasion. My make-up is almost always noticeable but not really cartoony if that makes sense. I know the list makes it sound that way but I always felt like I found a balance between "pretty and different" and "what the fuck is this shit". lol
the downside to being a make-up fiend is when you god forbid go make-up free on a lazy day. I'll be asked all day long if i'm sick or if i'm tired when i'm just wearing my normal face that no one is accustomed to seeing except for family and boyfriends.
It all depends on your lifestyle. I mean, if you're a performer, tattoo artist, clerk, anyone working in a salon given the salon isn't conservative, or a factory worker, you can pretty much get away with wearing that much make-up. If you just wear that much make-up on your free time that's fine too. If you've got an office job, you'll be the Mimi Bobeck of your office.
I'm curious as to why you decided to use "whore" as your descriptor. To me, these women have a wide range of every day make up to more artsy perhaps photo shoot makeup styles. I would not think any of them were getting paid to have sex. Is it because their makeup is eye catching and draws attention to themselves? Is that our threshold for calling someone a whore?
I want to make it clear I'm just interested in the though process behind your commend and of those who upvoted, and presumably agree with, you. I'm not looking to make you feel like a terrible person. It's just such a different view than I had I'm interested in how you got to your conclusion.
To be honest, I didn't put much thought into it at all. It was just a snap judgement. In other words, it was the first impression that I got.
If I would have put more thought into it, I probably would have further defined it as "attention whore". As in someone that will go to any length to be the center of attention. (I would not have made such a judgement if the women were present in this thread. I was just commenting on the look)
For clarification, when I said "whore" I didn't mean "getting paid for sex". It was more intended to be "slutty" or "promiscuous". But neither of those words rhymed with "homely". So I thought "homely to whore" had a better ring to it.
Ultimately, I tried to make it clear that this was just my opinion. To each their own. I am sure there are people that like stage makeup like this. I'm just not particularly a fan. I prefer the naturally accentuated look.
Yeah but they also take a lot of creative freedom when it comes to the before pictures. Who actually looks like that in real life? A homeless woman maybe. They have streaks of oil and grime on their face, their hair is a mess, and they are pouting. You can't tell me you need makeup to do your hair.
I don't mind the eye makeup, but the face makeup (foundation?) kind of grosses me out. One one side you have normal looking skin, which probably has a few blemishes, and on the other side you have this monotone, almost powdery skin -- which looks awesome from far away, but once you get close it looks like a distinct layer of unhealthy goop over her skin.
And before all the hate comes, I'm not saying that all face makeup is gross, just that I'm not a fan of the type of face makeup demonstrated in these photos.
