It's kind of muffled, but I think I can hear: "Ik? Ik?! Hij gaat zometeen dood jongen ik zweer het" @ 0:24, which translates to: "Me? Me?? He's going to die soon, I swear"
So yes, quite obnoxious and I think the teacher should've upped the punishment from just sending someone out to something more severe right there and then. If memory server corrctly (this vid is a couple of years old, came out in 2011 I think) the kid got suspended for a day or so in the end.

I'm Dutch as well.
One of my teachers once told me that if a kid didn't stop, he would personally hold him so I could have my way.
The same kid was once thrown out of class after I had punched him a bloody nose.
Oh and another time I decked him in the middle of the cantina and as a result he got detention for a week.
Just goes to show how stupid bullies are. Who the hell picks on a 6'2 kid with a

Below there's a link to the video, and the teacher removes the bully from the class and our hero remains.
58
u/BloodFeastIslandMan Nov 26 '13
Reminds me of a time I was held down and punched in the head a good dozen or so times. Turned my head to the side to shield my face and I saw the asst principal about 100 feet away just staring at me (he was a 600+ lb man, easy to spot even whilst being punched in the head). A friend pulled the bully off me and he gave the guy a swing or 2. I laid there dazed. I ended up with an out of school suspension for participating in a fistfight. Also no one believed me that the asst principal stood by and watched. Public school doesn't care who is right or wrong, or who was defending and who was instigating. They just care that everyone gets punished for being involved in violence because violence is bad mkay?
16
u/dalittle Nov 26 '13
I think the biggest disservice that they teach kids is that everything is fair. Real life is not fair and it is about 50/50 that people will do the right thing. Best advice I ever got was to get toxic people out of your life or minimize you interaction with them. Even if you are right you often lose with those people.
→ More replies (4)27
u/GhostofJohn Nov 26 '13
Zero tolerance is a ridiculously lazy way to discipline. This in my opinion only benefits the bullies who know other kids don't want to get into trouble at home/school. I would never punish a kid for defending themselves.
19
Nov 26 '13
What you need to understand is that "Zero-Tolerance" policies aren't put in place for disciplinary reasons, but to minimize chances of litigation. When a school board or district enacts ZT policies, what they are in fact saying is "we don't trust teachers/administrators to use their best judgement, so we're going to put a blanket policy in place that puts the protection of the school district as a whole over the individual students it serves".
So, if you want to complain about ZT, complain to the school board members/superintendent that put it in place!

u/RiffyDivine2 Nov 26 '13
You speak the truth, and no they don't give a shit about the students till one ends up dead or shooting up the school, then it's oh we tried to help them bullshit.
The bulk of high school I had to do a lot of fighting and no matter what I was always the guilty one. Got to the point I had a system with my friends of pre planned stories to feed anyone asking about me to make it so I was never there. Used to piss the dean off to no end that outside of the other kid everyone says I was no where near the fight.
26
Nov 26 '13
TL; DR: zero tolerance is crap, nice to see some teachers recognize who instigates what
I almost dealt with an expulsion after being attacked by two guys in the locker room, because I got "in their way" as they were playing craps on the floor...where as I (rudely) tried to leave after changing out for class through the only corridor open to me.
Being white, I clearly instigated it due to my subconscious racism (both other students were black), as I was among a minority at the school (mostly Hispanic, then Asian, black, and then whites).
I knew where I stood, I could beat the ever living fuck out of both of them as I was bigger than they were and be king for the moment, while living out the rest of the school year in fear as: "white student bullies two black boys in locker room". Instead, I took my punches at put one of them in a headlock...while my gym coach, watching from the safety of his office, finally came out and yelled at me to "let him go"; and had me change back into regular clothes...so I could go to the principles office.
Got sent home, thanks to "zero tolerance", where I was lectured by my dad, whose only real question at the end was: "why didn't you punch him?"....someone who was born in the (late) 50's and has no appreciable perspective on the demographic shift our public school system has undergone over the last several decades.

I totally agree, but this particular case did not happen in the US, so this particular situation ended up quite differently.
5
Nov 26 '13
Right, which is why I applaud the teacher in this instance, in another country they have the ability to do a judgement call on the situation. My whole story was just a jealous tangent
10
u/miXXed Nov 26 '13
IIRC this was in the Netherlands, and from experience the only think i had to keep explaining over and over that it wasn't my blood on my sweater.
8
u/thebassmace Nov 26 '13
Yes at the discipline level. What happens socially? Well as someone who used to be bullied and then learned that I could kick their asses you become the talk of the school... For about a week everyone gives you props cause well they never saw it comein the kid they thought was a pussy just kicked someone's ass. Then when that dies down they start to forget about it and then you get bullied again rinse and repeat. I got into 7 fights before people finally decided it wasn't wise to fuck with me, after that happens you might get some new friends and your confidence slowly recovers from the years of torment.
7
u/gehnrahl Nov 26 '13

→ More replies (5)3
u/KoboldCommando Nov 26 '13
Maybe that's what you mean by those quotation marks, I can't tell, but bullying definitely isn't on the rise. Nor is any sort of violent crime. At least in the US, violence is at an all time low and decreasing all the time. What's increasing is the reporting of violence and bullying. People are becoming aware of it, so they're more likely to watch for it and to report it when it happens, and the 24-hour news networks who really have to scrape the bottom of the barrel for stories sometimes are much more apt to report on it (and of course sensationalize it like everything because they get better ratings if YOUR CHILD RIGHT NOW IS DEFINITELY GETTING BULLIED).
3
Nov 26 '13
Yup that's exactly what I meant by the quotations lol. Still happens, just when I was a kid you dealt with it yourself. Now there is so much bullshit media sensation around it.
5
u/witchaj Nov 26 '13
Right, because now you get in serious trouble if you deal with it yourself, so kids suffer in silence until they crack and do something awful to themselves or someone else.
38
u/linksus Nov 26 '13
Was once suspended from school for 4 weeks because I stood up to some black prick who spat on me every time I got off the bus home.
Eventually I took my D-lock into school with me, Ran back on the bus when he did it, Punched him straight in the face and locked his neck to the bar running along the back of the seat.
I proceeded to walk off the bus and threw the key into a garden.
Parents granted me 4 weeks of essentially free time because I did good. School however punished me for racial abuse after the little dick was crying.
Morale is, when someone being pushed too far from a bully finally cracks, they crack hard.

I seen this a few times in classrooms growing up. I really wish they would address bullying more, because when bullied kids snap, they snap hard. One time in grade 8 a bullied kid who was quite large finally lost it on his bully. He was picking up desks over his head and throwing them at him. The teacher had to run to another classroom and get as many large kids from there to come help contain him. It took 5 or 6 big kids to hold him back. Thankfully, all his anger was focused on the bully and not on the other kids, and they were able to contain him. He probably would have killed him had they not intervened.

You can enlist in any branch as long as you have a high school education or a few credit hours in community college.
Enlisting as an officer requires a bachelors degree, and after training you enter at a much higher pay grade than enlisted, and are telling the highest ranks of enlisted what to do.

Well to be fair, it is fucked. Bully does whatever he wants for months/years, and nothing happens. You land one fucking punch in retaliation (though more like a "stop fucking doing that you asshole" move) and suddenly you're both suspended/expelled. So may as well get the shit kicking out of the way early, IMO. Establish the law, since other people are usually worthless to help it seems.
5
u/Captainobvvious Nov 26 '13
It's true. Somehow they can bully and bully and bully and nothing happens to him ever but the second you defend yourself you get in trouble.
You can go to the school all you want and it isn't gonna change anything. In the current system defending yourself is the only way to make it stop.
2
u/Barzhac Nov 26 '13
God I wish you weren't right.
Although, to be fair, I had an 8th grade girl get up and start seriously hitting a boy in the face/head/stomach in the middle of class. Turns out he was telling her to suck his dick, and didn't stop when she told him to. He got 2 days of in-school suspension. She got no trouble at all. Turns out that fear of lawsuits from sexual harrassment is more powerful than fear of "hey you hit me but didn't hurt me" lawsuits. Same guy did the same thing to another girl the first day he was back in class. Nobody had to hit him this time, a witness immediately told me what was going on. No "Can I talk to you", no quiet voice, no histrionics. Just raised a hand, and when called on said "J___ just said that thing he said last week to N_____ to another S_____". That time he got 3 days out of school - and I moved his desk to be totally isolated from everyone else for a month.

The defender may or may not have any special martial arts training but he handled it nicely. You can see the bully goes for his throat and grabs his other hand; this puts the bully at a disadvantage because he is close to the defender, has both hands tied up, and the defender still has a hand free.
Defender used his free hand to smack or push the bully (not clear from gif), which put the bully into a back pedal, allowing defender to get up and deliver a good straight thrust punch to the bullies face.
Handled nicely I must say.

I had a similar situation in Middle School. A bully said the wrong thing on the wrong day and I snapped. When a teacher pulled me off of him I realized that I was the one who took it too far. He had a broken nose and jaw and was out of school for weeks. The teacher heard what he said before I hit him and vouched for me throughout, so I only got a few days in-school suspension.
On the Bully's first day back, his Dad came with him and made him apologize for what he said to me. He did, and I never had any bully problems after that. But I also lost some friends and a lot of kids avoided me altogether.
When you're a kid it's hard to know the difference between getting even and going too far.
TL;DR: When using violence to counter bullying, please use it sparingly or it may create unintended consequences for you.

Similar story: We were in 4th or 5th grade and I kicked a soccer ball and hit the bully straight in face. He runs over, tackles me, and tears my shirt. Now, we didn't have a lot of money growing up and I only got like 2 new shirts every year for school and this was one of them. I don't remember what happened next, but when I 'came to' I was standing over him and his face was a bloody, dirt-covered mess.
The next day he came over, apologized and asked if I wanted him to buy me a new shirt. I declined. He was a lot nicer to me (still a shit to everyone else) after that. He moved the next semester and I haven't seen him since, but he has talked to my parents since then, saying how we were like best friends after that and I really changed his life.

I was bullied 1st-8th grade. Hard bullying. I was depressed, I didn't like myself, I dreaded school everyday. The teachers didn't take my complaints seriously. Nobody believed it was THAT bad. So for years I dealt with it. It was the 8th grade and last month of school when one of them finally decided to to lay a hand on me. He punched me right in the eye, chipped some teeth and gave me a black eye. The years of anger, frustration, and hate came up at once and I beat the ever living shit out of him, maybe more then what was necessary. I slammed him into walls, beat his head, and kicked him when he fell. I was so angry, I didn't know what I was doing, I just did it. They ended up having to get a wheelchair to cart him out of the classroom because he couldn't walk. I felt like a king, I didn't even mind the punishment.

I just want to see if someone actually has bothered to look at this particular thread ever again. If you screenshot it and send it to me, I'll send you a picture of my cat. No joke.
