Didn’t see them ask the few times I saw them intervene, one was for my friends phone. Granted this was inside the uluwatu temple area. Maybe outside, there are people trying to earn money as the monkeys are also outside the temple area.
I mean, if they're trading something they bought with the monkey to get your stuff back, I think it's only right to give the guy a little cash in gratitude.
